I know or think that fj80`s had solid front diff up to 97, which was the last year, then in 98 went to IFS. Did some of the fj80`s come with lock out hub`s (part time 4wheel drive), and can you change the full time hub`s to part time 4 wheel drive ?

the 91-92 models have a kit available for thr T-case and then installing the hubs will give you part time ability. IMHO it defeats the best aspect of the truck though.

Kind of like removing a testicle to loose some weight.

I`am looking for a front FJ80 diff for my SAS on my 1990 toy truck, that is why I was wondering what I could do. Thank`s, Scott.

scott,
on the front end anything from 91 to 97 will work for you,
unless you still have a stock width rear axle. these are uite a bit wider than the mini truck axles. if you could locate a e lockered front for your mini downey makes a cable locker for it that you could retrofit and I think would be pretty slick.

OK, a search will reveal several posts on what hubs will work with the 80 axle to do what you want. Didn't know where you were coming from with that question.
Oh, on problem, I should of put that in my post probaly. Thank`s for the info, Scott.

I want to go alittle wider, most pickup`s use the front diff out of a older toy truck and then put on 37" tire`s, equal`s too tall and to narrow for me. I plan on using a tacoma TRD rear with a 1 or 1 1/2 inch spacer. Thank`s for the info, Scott. P.S. now I just need to find someone selling a FJ80 complete front diff.
