I haven't done an extensive search yet on what's out there. I have the Haynes manual that covers 1980-1996, FJ 60,62,80 and FZj80... are there any manuals that zero in on 60's only with more detail? Is there an FJ 60 bible out there? recoment?

The Toyota Factory Service Manuals (FSM) are generally regarded as the best. You'll need three at a minimum; the Chassis and Body Manual, the Emissions manual and the 2F Engine manual. There are other smaller supplements that cover a/c, maintenance, wiring, etc.

You can order them directly from Toyota (I don't have the number, but you can probably search and find it) or from an online place like www.sor.com.

The Chassis and Body Manual is available for download from Birfield.

FSM for sure.

Easy step by step instructions with illustrations detailing the procedures.

I have the factory manuals. Personally I wouldn't waste my time even picking up the Haynes. I used to have one and sold it because it was too generic.

I couldn't think of how to discribe the Haynes... That's it "generic"... Ding ding ding!
Looking through it makes me want to burn it, no useful info here to allow the entry to a project with confidence.

Give Toyota Publications a call: 1-800-622-2033 or just look 'em up online. I think I got mine in 3 business days. The total cost for all 6 manuals and supplements was $140 and some change. You may not need all of them right away but they're definitely worth the investment.

Haynes sucks, I have some Australain one, can't remeber name, its a litte better than sucks. FSM the bomb!!! check birfield.com :grinpimp:downloadable:grinpimp:

I called the Toyota 1-800 number to try to get the FSM to work on the transfer case...the lady at Toyota said that her computer only showed two...the emissions & the engine. I did tell her my wagon was an 83-FJ60. Is there another year model that I can purchase so I can work on the TC?

Thanks,

Call CDan - he knows what you need and will cut you a sick deal as well...

(If you don't know - Search "Cruiser Dan")

I had emailed him for this and other TC parts...He was the one who gave me this number....1-800-622-2033.

Thanks,

ML

The Chassis and Body manual is the one you need for a T-case rebuild. There's a 8/80-10/84 FJ40 & FJ60 version and a 10/84-1/90 FJ60 & FJ62 version. I think the 36262E number listed above is for the later one.

My print copy is the earlier one, but I also referred to the .pdf of the later one available at Birfield when I rebuilt my transfer case. I don't recall significant differences between the two.

Even if you buy the manual, download the .pdf from Birfield if you can. Then you can print out just the t-case section and not worry about greasing up your print copy.

Hey, try this link http://www.sor.com/sor/cat221.tam?xax=21981&page%2Ectx=cat221%2Etam I was hunting around for the manuals too. Found that the 1800 # had the engine and emissions manuals for a better price. 1800# has engine and emissions man's but no chassis and bod man's... the price here might be relitively high but chass and bod man's seem to be in stock. .. worth looking into
