Hello! I need to replace the A/C condenser in my 1985 FJ60. Is this fairly easy or difficult?

Randall

does it have a hole in it? is your system empty of "freon" ?

fairly straight forward, and easy....as long as you can get the fittings broke loose without damaging the tubes and hoses.

was fixing the hood latch and accidentally damage the condenser. air escaped from the system and has a small hole in it

it wasn't air that escaped but your freon. So once the condensor is replaced you will have to evacuate the system using a vacuum pump to remove all the air you let in then recharge the system with refrigerant. The problem is (besides the special tools needed) you may not be able to find the original type of refrigerant (R12) available or it will be very expensive. There are other refrigerants available but switching to these requires replacing other parts. Do some searching here or via google to get more information.

The tubes on the condenser have a tendency to crack by the flare on near the end if lines are tightened too tight. Go easy on tightening the lines.

related: Are the 60 & 62 A/C condenser & compressor interchangeable?

Compressors and condensers are different on the 60 and 62.
60 series used a 6P143A compressor, while the 62's use a 10P15C or 10PA15C. They don't interchange. The condenser #'s are also different.

You might be able to swap brackets to fit the other compressor, but you may need to change the hoses as well. Same applies to the condenser. Possibly more trouble than it's worth.
