Hi, i am very new on the troopy. Just wondering is there any tips to fix gutter rust like this? Preferable not including welding as i dont have the skill or resources to do that

Remove the roof rack and check how bad it is.

If it is only surface rust you can sand / wire-wheel it off. You may need to dig out the gutter sealer if there is rust down in the gutters. Once that is gone you can wire-wheel the gutters as well.

If you have holes they will need to be filled. If welding is definitely not an option, a cheap fix would be to use bondo / body filler. Watch some youtube videos.

After that you'll need to reseal the gutter with a car body seam sealer. I used this product I believe: Eastwood self leveling seam sealer

Prime & paint are your final step. (I believe with the eastwood product I had to prime, seal, then paint).

Hope you got it before it gets too bad! Good luck!

How do the gutters actually attach to the car? Are they welded directly to the roof? Mine need attention as well but understanding how they attach seems important before I start grinding away, especially if I'm going to have to patch them. Thanks!

The edge of the roof is two layers thick. The gutter itself is on the bottom layer, and the external roof is the top layer. They meet at a join right there inside the gutter line. Which is why rust is such a problem - it creeps in between the layers. Watch some of the Yoshiwara plant videos that show them building the bodies for a better understanding.
