My 2008 LX 570 (210K miles) showed P2714 (Pressure Control Solenoid D Performance/Stuck Off) last year after dealer serviced the trans, the first time it showed up with stuck at 4th gear not going to 5/6th gear. The trans is AB60E, 6 speed.

So I pulled over and restarted the engine then drive back to normal, no issue with trans. I went to dealer, they said everything is fine, diagnosis fee is about $150.
After that, every 3~6 months the code P2714 show up again, but with no issue with shifting.
Finally, I decided the to replace the Solenoid SLT (Toyota Part No.: 35290-34010) by myself.

Took it off:

Checked it but seems fine, should be in range 5.0~5.6 Ohms, it's 5.8 Ohms not that bad. I replaced it with brand new one.

Suddenly, I realized that the OLD oil filter is wired:

The wrong oil filter probably was the leading cause! The old one doesn't have the raised tube so sometime will suck some air into it, might cause the issue. Any thoughts on it?

I put everything back, refilled new oil and checked oil level. The trans works smooth! No issue with 1K miles so far.

Will keep report if the P2714 is completely gone. What a dealer's s*** job!

After couple of weeks, the code P2714 showed up again.

I cleaned the code and also change vehicle speed sensor, part no is "89413-20011".

So far, the code didn't show up anymore. Will keep updating.

@yeLwWm I’m carefully watching this as I’ve been dealing with this for years. I’m very depressed that switching the solenoid didn’t fix

Question: what made u change the speed sensor?

Also was changing the solenoid diy a challenging job? Always assumed that would fix it. I did a diy full flush of my trans fluid, and keep thinking that maybe it’s low due to a leak or user error.

But still need time to prove that if the speed sensor fixed the P2714.

Not really, for me it's one hour job including changing oil and filter, clean oil pan and replace solenoid. If your solenoid is in good range (5.0~5.6 Ohms), I don't think need to replace. You can check the solenoid Ohms without drain the oil or remove the oil pan.

Today the code P2714 showed up again, after changed vehicle speed sensor.

No problem with shifting, so just erased the code.

@yeLwWm thanks for the insight, mine too seems to be also happening on slight inclines so I’ll need to investigate. That would be such a wonderful easy fix!

@njbrain - did a new valve body cure a similar situation for you ? Is the swap diy friendly?

P2714 showed up again, I gonna try TransGo SHIFT KIT Valve Body Repair Kit.

I battled a similar scenario as this for about a year or so. Was more of a nuisance than anything else. Eventually I let it get to my head for better or worse and feared I’d get completely stuck at some point. I had a new valve body installed and it made things worse. Ended up with a new transmission. For what it’s worth I was around 350,000 miles when I swapped transmissions.

Thanks for sharing. May I ask what problems occurred after replacing the valve body?

I plan to repair the valve body with a kit first. After all, it's only a 200-dollar part and a few hours of my own time. If it still doesn't work, I might look for a used trans.

Only intermittent issues shifting prior (In retrospect I probably could’ve just kept on erasing codes and pulling over and restarting whenever I had issues). Shifting was so rough after valve body replacement it was unbearable. Yanked into each gear. It was undriveable. Once again, looking back, I would’ve had someone else do the valve body than who I had do it. There may have been a different outcome. But hindsight is always 50/50.
Anyways, I bought a remanufactured transmission and had my transmission guy bolt it up and it’s been great for 40,000 miles now. The truck may break down tomorrow, but I trust it to get me to and from wherever I want to go again, and for me it was worth it.

very interested in this @yeLwWm ! Pls post pics and tips/tricks etc.

My 09 LX with 250k has been struggling with these codes for a while, def seems to hunt for gears when cold and on a slight incline…. My hack for the last year has been just using the quasi-manual gear shifting mode. But even then sometimes it’ll get stuck in 3rd gear not up shifting to 4th.

It almost seems like an ecu problem like it doesn’t know what gear it should be in, sometimes jumps up and then back down. Super weird

I agree with your risk analysis, minimal financial risk vs the potential reward.

But I fear it might be more challenging that my wrenching abilities.

Spent about 5 hours to finish the TransGo work during the weekend.

But I lost reverse gear, so sad. Maybe I did something wrong or the previous owner did some wrong. The difficulty of fix valve body is like 7 out of 10. Please take lots of pics before you take parts out. Also do some notes to mark, really help a lot for anyone first time to do transmission work.

I decided to buy a brand new valve body from Lexus. Part Number: 3541060680.

Great news! After adjust one retainer's position, so far the transmission driver great!

TransGo Parts 1:

TransGo Parts 2 (a key part of a successful repair):

TransGo Parts 3 (Recommend, but I forget to buy):

TransGo Parts 4:

I only did TransGo Part1 & 2, if do it again, will apply all these 4. If you're planning on doing it, I highly recommend doing all four TransGos.

Watched several Youtube videos, I think I made some mistake during put Transgo kit. As shown in the picture below, the green area is the retainer should be put in, not the red area.

The locations of three parts that are easy to fall out as below:

Lubegard Dr. Tranny Assemblee Goo, please choose GREEN version, this is what you need when put the valve body back, some parts easy to drop, super helpful when you don't have second person assist you.

These parts are upside down when you install under your car. Need Assemblee Goo to put them in positions.
