I am fitting up a pair of the Cruiser Solutions rear FJ40 spring hangers to the frame of my 78FJ40 and I have a question. It's looking like if I line up the holes with those in the frame that the piece COULD slide backward some to fit snug against the rear bumper/Cross member. I also can still see the one hole that is (almost) in line with the frame rail through the space (when I do not slide the piece all the way back.)

So, do I slide it back and forget the predrilled holes or do I go for the holes and not seat the piece as far back as it can go?

Maybe the stock measurement from hanger to hanger would be good (mine had PO mumbo-jumbo so I would not have trusted the measurement I had)

Also: bolt? Weld? Both?

Thanks,
Mark

Mount your springs/axles/shackles to the shackle hangers. Temporarily bolt/clamp/tack weld the hangers to the frame. Put weight on the axle and see where the shackle angle ends up. Move the hangers to the location with the best shackle angle. THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE STOCK LOCATION! My OME springs liked the hanger forward several inches from stock. If you don't think now is the time to commit to a location then bolt them on until the rest of the truck is closer to done.

Thanks Nick. Bolting is probably the right call since I'm planning on using some "new" springs I have here (The "Dar" springs sourced from a LCML connection years back). These look to be 2.5" more lift than the new-ish OEM stock springs on there now - measured with them sitting side by side on the floor. The are the same straight-line length from eye to eye as they lay on the floor too (Therefore the longest spring leaf must be longer onthe Dar spring)

On a side note: How do I tell a front from a rear spring - if there is in fact any difference in the ones I have?
