first time out in my fj

O.k. so first off I bought my some what stock 40 off ebay ( big mistake) the piece of crap that I bought it from lied about all the repairs that were covered in loads of bondo and fiberglass. But anyway I just finish rewiring, put a new waterpump and flushed the cooling system, and tried to get the holley (junk) 350 carb. adjusted. It has a small stumble on the first 1\4 throttle. I have the airbleed set at about 3 turns out which is the least amount of hesitation. I took it out for a shake down run and It ran at about 180F-190F on the street\freeway on a 95F day. But when I got to the trail in 4x4low climbing it when to 210F consistent, down hill 4x4low went to 160F flat roads 180F
Being my first 4x4 is this normal? I'm thinking of getting some radiator additive to drop the temp,making a fan shroud,and last getting an aluminum radiator.
maybe a stock carb. so that the idle circuit is correct? Or does anyone have some jetting or adjustment advice for this holley? thanks

Sounds alot like my rig temp. wise. I think Its better now since I added an electric fan ( pusher) in the front of the radiator. I turn it on in certain situations. I also extended my shroud to center of mechanical fan. It helped but nothing dramatic. I did change my thermostat from a 190 to a 160 and that seemed to help alot.

Get it rebuilt with a 4 core should solve your temp concerns.

first things first, put a shroud on it. you live in a hot place so you're gonn ahve to get all your ducks in a row but it won;t be that difficult to get that cruiser to run at 180-190 all day.

agree with mr. george, start with the basics, shroud, get the radiator out and get it checked out, flush the system, etc.

Don't forget to check your clutch fan. A bad clutch fan will cause overheating. Also, check if your thermostat is opening properly.

I live down the road from you. A stock rad did not work for me. I also tried a alum stock size rad, and it did not work either. I had a shroud, a pusher fan, and a very large mech fan. Only thing that helped me, was a larger rad.

i would go with the thermostat first,then the shroud. if that dont fix things then go to the more costly items. my .02 worth . good luck. if you are in chino, you are not that far from downey off-road.

i blew alot of dirt(mud) out of one, make sure it's clean.
