I have been on the search for the decent mileage 80 series or 100 series cruiser. Def needs to have locking diff. Do you guys feel this is priced right? The lowest he said he could go is 13,500. Its a 99' with 142k, one owner. Carfax has all of the maintenance history as it has been maintained at the toyota dealership.

I am not one to get most cars at dealerships but this just seems right. Let me know what you guys think.

That price for a 99 is very high. Keep looking as there is little chance you'll be able to get him down to what it is worth.

yeah since he just got it in he is saying the lowest is 13,500. I had a feeling it was a little on the steep side. Thanks guys i appreciate it.

I actually do not think that price is too out of whack when considering the region. For whatever reason these trucks really seem to bring more in the PNW. Especially if including Idaho.

Provided there is little rust and no immediate major expenses, I really think you could do worse.
FWIW, I purchased an LX with 70k for $13,500 in East Tennessee. However, this was aided immeasurably by my older brother having worked for various car manufacturers for the past 20 years.

^^ ditto.

LC/LXs there seem to carry a higher price tag vs. other areas of the country.

Looks like it is in good shape and has the rear e-locker.

Does it have rear AC? Couldn't tell by some of the images.

I'll throw in here since I bought my 2002 a year and a half ago, from a Toyota dealer in WA. My 2002 was extremely well cared for (by a mud member I was able to get in contact with on here after the sale), had 108k, a fresh 90k service, arb bullbar, OME 2.5 lift, clean carfax, showroom interior (minus a little wear on the drivers seat and steering wheel leather), no dings or dents or paint damage of really any kind (minus a chip or two), and no rust anywhere. I spent $13500ish.

With regard to you wanting lockers, you have probably done your research, but I would argue that the Atrac/vsc combo (in the 2000+ 100s) makes for a better system for everyday driving and once mastered is as good or better than lockers in nearly all off roading situations. There is a great write up in the FAQ that teaches you how to use Atrac in offroading situations. Combined with the stronger front diff (compared to pre-2k 100s with locker/s), and the fact that I have kids in car seats (2001 I believe is when Toyota added latch system to 100's) and my wife driving them around in snow and ice (the Atrac/vsc is much better for her in those situations), it was a no brainer to spend a little more for those improvements. I know the Atrac and vsc systems have saved at least 2 imminent accidents while my wife was driving in snowy weather. And, if you REALLY want the rear lockers, just add an arb airlocker later and have the best of both worlds. It seems like prevailing knowledge and experience from members here says the arb lockers are quite a bit better than the factory e-lockers anyway. Many mud member who own the 98-99s end up upgrading to the arb lockers eventually anyway.

It took me close to 6 months looking just about everywhere west of the Mississippi for the right 100, so I know your pain. You can bet that dealer has less than $10k wrapped into that LC. Although we love them, most people these days (especially in the uber Liberal PNW) are not willing to jump into an LC getting less than 13mpg on the freeway. Let someone else pay too much for it, or wait for the dealer to come down. I would say, for me, I would not spend more than $11.5k on a pre-2k 100. And due to abnormal tranny failure rates in the 2000 100's, I would steer clear of them altogether. 2001-2002 are the best years of the 100's before the new tranny came in 2003, IMHO.

Just my 2 pennies though, good luck with your search! When you find the right one for the right price you will be glad you waited.

My 2002 also came with brand new 295/70/r18 nitto trail mts too, just for comparison sake. And, I bought in January (when most would think the LCs demand the most money), so ya I would laugh in that dealers face, give him a standing offer no greater than $11.5k, and wait for him to call you (at which time I would tell him my offer dropped to $11k). But that's me, and I'll admit, I am a grade A a****** to most sales people, especially the ones who work at used car dealerships that do not carry a factory charter.

Sorry about all the replies, the WA Toyota dealer which had taken my LC in on trade for a brand new tundra, paid less than $11k for it (I found out later from the mud member who owned it previously), and had a $18500 window sticker on it when I took delivery at my local (oregon) Toyota dealer. There ya go, that all the info I got!

I did find another excellent condition but it was an LX470 214k, 2 owner, great condition interior, seats, no rust. never off road. For $7,300. I really wanted to be under 200K.

I would do that LX for $7k waaaaaaaaay before I would do the LC for $12k+

$5k would buy all the armour and u could bring that power train back to brandnew

Oh ya,must trying to point out that mileage ain't no big deal as long as its well cared for.

If the LX is clean, I'd say that $7300 is a great price, save some $ for some mods later...

I would not go with 1999 for couple reasons:
1. Price
2. 1999 version is a bit problematic all the problems are fixed in 2001 version like : rack-and-pinion is not mounted well, charcoal canister
but this is the only year that have rear lock.

go read this : http://www.sleeoffroad.com/newbie/newbieUZJ100.htm

The US 1999-2000 LX's never offered a rear locker, but the Canadian ones I believe always have. (no 100 Series LC offered by Toyota Canada there only LX).
Moreover, I cannot agree with the description of the 98-99 100's having problems that needed to be worked out.

Things like ATRAC were not put on there to enhance off road capability, rather it was a mandatory reality due to current and forthcoming US/ROW safety requirements.
Accordingly, it is pretty safe to guess a major component in Toyota deciding to stiffen up the front differential was not due to field reports noting them constantly blowing out, but due to the added stresses added by ATRAC/VSC.

Remember, especially with the Land Cruiser, Toyota just does not mess around during the durability testing of their flagship. Moreover, consider the times when the 100 was conceived (believe the design parameters were locked in 1995). Toyota was simply flush. Their F1 Project (Lexus LS400) exceeded their wildest dreams at the time and by 1995 Toyota and most all Asian companies were riding high.
Much different story by 1997 (Asian Economic Crisis), but the development was all but locked in by then.
