Thought I would create a separate thread for the LRA tank install even though I covered a bit of the painting in my resurrection thread, and the orig tank removal in my fuel line thread. Those threads are listed below:

Just a bit of a recap. I purchased the tank used about 6 years ago. That year or the following year, I media blasted it, and coated with some body filler and a coat of primer. It sat like that until this summer (August) at which time I decided I would install it in my LX after unsucccessfully trying to sell it the last two years, hence the resurrection thread. Shortly afterwards, I sprang a leak in my fuel line under the drivers door area. What U thought would jysg be a “patch” at the local garage turned into me installing all new fuel lines and a bunch of other new parts including a new OEM filler neck I had purchased many years ago after it too sprang a leak. So, at the end of the day, I will pretty much have a new fuel system installed sans the refurbished LRA tank.

Situation as it stands now:

1. LRA is almost ready to install except for some sanding of rust around both the sending unit flange and check valve flange.
2. LRA straps need to be media blasted and painted.
3. Waiting on new filler & vent hoses ordered from local Lexus dealer yesterday as well as the banjo crush washers and one fuel line bracket.
4. Waiting on new fuel supply banjo pipe and a couple of fuel line brackets ordered today from mega zip.net.
4. Need to order some fuel line hose and spring clamps locally that go on the ends of the fuel lines at both the engine side and tank side.
5. Already picked up misc bolts and gear clamps based on the LRA parts list,
6. May have to fab up a couple of brackets shown in the LRA installation instructions that did not come with the tank. LRA told me I must have one of the very first tanks, so not sure if they changed their kit since my tank was made it if or if the previous owner just didn’t include them.

I’lll post up some pics later today or tomorrow.

Sediment/debris in the original tank. The filler neck had been leaking for at least 6 years so no big surprise.

What is left of the filler neck.

Tank and skid plate. The skid plate is pretty much finished.

Stripped the head of one of the strap bolts on the front strap. The inboard bolt came out easily. Ended up breaking off the strap next to where it attached to the floor. Couldn’t budge that bolt yet.

Had the same issue with the rear strap. It’s removal was complicated by the fact the there was a support bracket for the emergency brake cable attached to it. Ended up cutting the strap on each side of the bracket. Also couldn’t budge the bolt securing the outboard bolt to the floor. Getting those two bolts out from the floor will be interesting as well as getting the emergency brake bracket loose.

Some pics from this Sept with it in self-etching primer. Has 3 coats of semi-gloss black, plus I added another 3 coats of brushed on Rustoleum.

Thus is the rust mentioned earlier that I still need to deal with.

What it looked like from what I did about 6 years ago, and just after I started working on it this summer.

Picked up the parts from the dealer for the tank this morning plus one of the fuel lines brkts. I guess they included the gasket for the filler neck & vent line flange at the rear of the factory tank, but I won’t be needing that with the LRA tank.

I should mention that the main filler tube (77213-60090) has a metal sleeve inside. I noticed this last week when I removed the original one. I had wondered why it was so difficult to remove.
