So for those of you who know what the title is, good for you! You paid attention in History class. Being a master of all things Historical on a Baccalaureate level ( I have a piece of paper to prove it). If you don't know, it was Franklin Delano Roosevelt's famed radio broadcasts during the Great Depression.

History lesson aside, I plan on writing something at least once a week, and trying to keep lines of communication open in the club, and get some ideas for what YOU, the membership wants to do during the coming year. I have not had time to meet with the entire BOD, but plan to do so this week and see about getting some stuff up for a calendar of events.

I know that getting events up and organized are challenging, and during this economic climate not all will be able to attend. With this in mind I hope to do some monthly get togethers in both the upstate and WNC. If you have any places you'd like to go that are interesting or close i.e. The Beacon in Spartanburg, A&P in Greer etc... Let me or JP know and we'll attempt to entertain any ideas. I know more of the membership is in the upstate and I am sympathetic to that and hopefully we won't make you come up the mountain too much, but in the idea of fairness i'd like to do half and half.

JP has taken off like a rocket on the fall Pisgah to Mitchell ride, and I plan on being at this one (among others) but I have a special affinity to this one as I have not missed one since joining UC (and David Davis usually shows, which is like a bigfoot sighting).

Any ways, this is the ramblings of one who has driven the expanse of the State of SC, and returning from a vacation state of mind. In the meantime, if you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to e-mail me at jay.conkin@att.net and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Thank you, and God Bless America... (Dubya throwback ending)

There are a few UC members here in the Cola area, as well as Charleston is only 1.5 hours away. If you want me to head up a meeting one month closer to the Mid-State, let me know. Not sure what the turnout would be with all the things mentioned above. Football, economy, life, etc. But it might be worth a try. Even if it's just to get together and watch some football, and kick around some ideas from the members.

That is an excellent idea!

i'm game for a meet in cola on saturdays...maybe some tailgating at williams bryce during the home games????

Well, the next home game is Alabama the weekend of the boil. The next home game is Tenn, then Ark. It might be a packed October with Halloween, Clemson/Miami, Boil, and parkway cruise.

I might do something for the Troy game if anyone is interested, or we could do a Clemson/Carolina party here somewhere. Either at my place, at Wild Wings or somewhere downtown.

We can talk about it over the next couple of months. But I think a Mid-state Oyster Roast for the Clemson/Carolina game would be cool.

Why not try to get Midlands Cruiser back up and running. Pretty much disbanded since Nathan went to work for IPOR. Someone might give him a call and see if he has any suggestions. That way you could have a Low and Mid and Upstate cruisers monthly meetings.

Just a thought.

I have thought of that. I was going to call Nathan and see if he had an old roster and I was going to put some feelers out to see how much interest there was for another division. Obviously it would help get more involved in UC as a whole. Figured we would start off with a UC meeting first and see what the locals think about starting the club back up.

I slacked off on this Sunday, but here's making up for it for those who follow my craziness. The BOD, well a portion of it is getting together this Saturday at A&P in Greer to discuss the plans for the year, and hopefully come up with some fun stuff to do. We have made the decision to hold meetings bi-monthly, these will be times when the general membership can throw out ideas and get answers to questions face to face, a time when the BOD can be held accountable to you so it would behove you to be there. As for being there, instead of having a traveling road show we are going to hold the "meetings" at one location in Greenville so there is no confusion as to where and when for these. Off months we can go wherever we want and do just about anything we want to do. I plan to start this in November and will have a post concerning it, closer to that time.

We have some fun stuff coming up and I am going to do my best to make it to everything I can, the Parkway Cruise that JP is running with looks like it is rounding out quite well, and the impromptu Clemson Miami game should be fun for those who are going. So we are at least getting together, and I hope to see tons of pics from the tailgating at the game.

I'd like to send a special thank you to Rick for continuing the relationship with the folks at Golden Mountain and getting us booked for GSMTR and all that good stuff.

I know Marshall mentioned the idea of having a club camping stove at the meeting. I didn't know how everyone felt about this, but thought if it was something we wanted to look into we could buy the stove and acc. and have an afternoon where we get members together to build a portable chuckbox that we could fit in just about any size Cruiser.

Just a thought, that I figured I would throw out there.

Great idea! Build a trailer with a spot for the canopy, chuck box and table, water, first aid kit, tool kit, etc.

Let's do it. We just need to find an old trailer that someone will donate that we could rebuild.

Jeremy

He pulled it and said it wasn't for sale. Maybe he was already thinking of donated it to the club.:grinpimp:

I have some nice thick sheets of SS that I will donate to build the trailer or chuck box if we decide to do this. They are nice and about 2' wide by 4'-5' long. Perfect for tables, sides, door lids, etc. Still has the plastic over the polished side.

Jeremy

The wife won't let me sell the trailer - she wants me to keep it to build it after I build the Swiss trailer.

She thinks I'll be a PITA (more so than usual) if I sell it and then wish I hadn't. She knows me too well...

We'll also have a $100 donation from either Gundy or myself after the Clemson/Carolina game. I vote to spend it towards this cause.

Jeremy

Awesome, not much restoring to do on that one. Just add the goodies, and maybe some new tires for insurance reasons.

Where's the rest of BOD to chime in.:hhmm: We off course would need to leave an open spot for hauling Raffle prizes etc., hence the 3/4 ton trailer should be perfect.
