This restoration began in 2006 and should be done this summer. Then and now pictures below. Just got to get her back together!

Previous thread was in the 45 classifieds forum:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-classifieds-corner/113639-new-45lv-lvdreamer.html

The factory windshield and cargo glass (sides and rear) are all in great shape but the rubber is shot. I am up to speed on the use of the 40 series windshield seals (inverted) but this will seem to require cutting new glass or trying to grind the existing glass. Are there any other solutions?

Also, any expertise/leads in sourcing the window channels or other rubber stateside would be super useful.

Also, will be getting after distributing the surplus parts, as promised, once this is back together.

Cheers

Loooking good Cameron. If you need extra hands to do something let me know. With the long evenings a lot can be done after supper. 4o399O5345 or on the club list or here.

It's not that hard to put together a work party in Calgary.

You wont have to cut or grind glass to use 40 seals. Tail gate with 40 seals works great, side cargo windows do work, but stock seals are a little bigger so using 40 rubber is a little lose. The only solution besides stock seals that I found would to have cargo glass cut a little bigger than stock I had a new windshield cut to the late 67 LV size( they have a taller windshield glass) and it works great.
JC whitney has some of the door window stuff( channel rubber and outside rubber thing that keeps water out).

Good luck, hope this helped a little

Kevin, great offer, the truck is out of town right now but should be back in the fall and I will call you up then (and probably beforehand re the other parts needed by your friend).

Thanks a lot for the reply, much appreciated. The 40 seals I am going to use are the same buckroseau used (part number SOR 120-03B/A-A/108 from a Land Cruiser Junky post). Will keep everyone posted.

Anyone know the JC Whitney part # for LV Door Weatherstrip? - Pirate4x4.Com

That is very helpful, thanks. Buckroseau also has a windowfelt solution that appears on his post 2233 on the b build thread. Here is his quote (but I do not have the part number yet)

"Also, about a month or so ago I ordered some samples from JC whitney for the window felt/track weatherstripping. I chose the one you see in the pics, seems to work very well. I did have the neighbor take a break from welding sheet metal in his 40 Ford pick up he's working on and give me a hand. He had to pull the weatherstripping as I pushed it in from the end. Pain in the ass, but we got it done and it looks perfect."

She's looking real good there Cameron. I'd love to see her when you get her back to Calgary.

I've been meaning to call you about that BJ42 also - I'm having no luck waiting for an 83/84 to surface so I was curious if you still had no plans for it. It was an 81 wasn't it? Anyway, good to see the 45 progress.

Kevin

Well, she's back! Took a little longer than expected (see above prediction about being done in 2012) owing to getting the final little parts sourced. The previous (long) drive in this lv was 500 miles over the mountains, so I decided to take the same approach on the way back! And It almost worked out - except for a lack of lubrication in a key drivertrain component, resulting in total failure (see photo of drivertrain below, with said component missing). As this took place in the middle of the mountains - at night - out of cell phone service - hours from home - it turned into a little bit of a trains, planes and automobiles situation. The truck is now waiting for a new (used) tcase comes in from Specter. Will send some glamour shots when it's done

And from the original thread: this a Canadian truck with 25,000 (documented!) miles that I got from the son of the second owner (it had been in the family for decades) after having had my eye in since the 90's. This is the original color as best could be reproduced, and the overall restoration was as stock as possible. That said I look forward to all of the comments and suggestions from those that have forgotten more than I will ever know about these trucks.

Cheers!

Looks great. Was there no sign of two tone paint? I thought they were all two tone. As for your 75mph cruise over the mountains, did the truck feel as though it was powerful or a slug? I am surprised it would go that fast. I have been very worried about what my LV was going to drive like upon completion. My FJ40 is no speed demon. I just hope I "like" the LV after all the hard work restoring it.

The Canadian trucks were single color - have seen five or six, now, that way. They also had red vinyl seats and particleboard door panels. Gess we Canucks just didn't get the fancy stuff ... Again, someone more knowledgeable please correct me, here, if needed.

It was hardly powerful at that (absolutely top) speed but didn't falter much. It sure don't think it would go that fast with another few adults or towing anything, for sure. Driving a three in the three in modern day traffic makes me feel like I am driving a Model T or something but on the highway you notice it less.

The handling was shockingly good, though. I know because on winding roads some guys fell a little off my tail ;)

PS, are you going to post your info about the weatherstrip sources?
It was pretty tough. JC Whitney didn't have the old parts numbers, couldn't send a catalog to Canada after repeated attempts, and we ending up the SOR 40 products for the windows and just made do with local bulk jobber stuff. If I run across any further records I will post them!

Right on Cameron. Sooo close.

So... the T-case... did you forget to fill it or was there a fatal leak?

And, did you have it towed back to Calgary or is it sitting in Revelstoke or Golden waiting for the T-case?

Never knew that the Canadian trucks were single color. As for the red, is it the same 'Coral' color red that others have in some 45lpb's? I opted in for Shane aka Atlasx to make me covers out of coral material he sourced. Sent him money and my covers and now his is long gone. SUCKS! Rant over.

I ditched the three on tree long ago, knew I couldn't live with it in Atlanta. Have a 4spd and 2F for power. We will see. Post up some more pics if you would.

Forgot to fill it - and I had lots of help in failing this badly on that! Man oh man.

It is in Calgary now. Just needed to get it back home. I am grateful for the premium auto club membership which got it most of the way here.

Would love to connect when works!

Although I am pretty sure that single color was the case in Canada I would be happy for others to weigh in. The seats were a way deeper red than the coral that Shane reproduced - which actually exactly is what was used for this truck. I haven't heard from Shane in a while - sorry to hear that you didn't get your material, that is awful. Pics to follow ...

The LV looks great Camron! Always an adventure doing long trips in any 40 series. Never a dull moment.
