So, I finally purchased my first 100-series. I bought it last Wednesday. I looked at slee before went to check out the vehicle but I was so excited I didn't check out the radio. I leave the dealership and try to turn on the radio. No go. Fast forward to right now. I'm just leaving the Lexus delearship after getting it checked out. They said the head unit needs to be replaced to the tune of $1100. I know I'm hosed bc it has nav and mark levison. As I understand it, I don't have any options but to replace the head unit. I'm still pumped about the LX, but that's a expensive lesson learned. I contacted the dealer right after I left about the malfunctioning radio. He said, "we will make it right". Hopefully that's true. We will see. I'll post some pics of the LX when I get home.

Congrats! I hope they're fair with you about that radio unit. That's one of my biggest fears with my LC is the nav/radio/heat/kitchen sink. Not the cost to replace it necessarily, it's just frustrating that there's really no alternative. Looking forward to pics!

I feel like a dumbass for missing such an easy issue that I knew could be an expensive fix. On the upside, it has always been a Texas truck, dealer maintained an is in pretty nice condition for a 10yr old vehicle. I plan to work thru all the routine maintenance stuff....fluids etc. then move to the little cosmetic stuff and then mods. I'm not going to be doing a lot of off roading but it will be the family camping vehicle, etc. I've been lurking on this site trying to learn as much as I can from all the great knowledgeable people here. I have a lot to learn, but looking forward to the process. I've already learned one expensive lesson.....turn on the radio before you buy

Hope it all works out, however looks like you got a great buy! Congrats.

If they said they'd take care of it I'm sure they will, right! Get it in writing (on paper, text, email or have two witnesses with you when given verbally) this very minute.

Do not wait, people forget what they say. "No your honor I don't recall saying that!"

Congrats!

Worst case scenario....they go back on their word. Check your contract...i had an issue with a honda we bought the wife and the transmission skipping. Took it to get checked three separate dealers and none could figure it out. In big bold letter on the contract it said: Dealer has option to take back vehicle. Guess what... a call to the GM and we got our money back.

Doubt they wont fix it, but just an FYI. Good luck!

Here's a pic of my LX....finally. I'm working thru the maintenance and issues, one at a time. The engine light was on when I bought it and was throwing P0420 and P0430 codes. Which the dealer thought was the AIP, he bought the bypass kit and mailed it to me. I installed the kit, cleared the codes and went on my merry way....the codes came back so I just ordered 2 upstream o2 sensors and will replace them. Hopefully that clears up the issue. Then I can get back to changing all the fluids. Then, maybe I can get to the fun stuff like bumpers, lifts, tires, etc. Also, I found a radio on eBay but its in Russia. I'm a little apprehensive to buy it on eBay from russia with a price tag of $300. It was the cheapest I have found.

There was a guy in Cumming GA that used to repair these units for a couple hundred $. He advertised on big-city Craigslist. I found him in DC Craigslist a while back...I don't find him anymore.

I'love see if anyone in the original thread saved his info and post back.

Very nice LX! I love those wheels - haven't seen them in black before. Do you know if it's simply been plasti-dipped?

Thanks! Yes, that is plasti-dip. I did them the day before the picture. I did them in hyper-black. I did 8 coats of the plain black plasti-dip then 1 coat of the pearl hyper black on top.
