Hello everyone,

First off, thank you to everyone out there that helped answer my questions and to all that eliminate some bad choices for trucks (I'm refering to trucks that have been totaled twice and are being sold without that mentioned!!!). I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but MUD definately helped me make the right decision in waiting for the right truck.

Now for the truck itself....

It is a '94 LC with 179xxx miles. Its is fully locked, and has the leather interior. It has a new starter, newer tires, new shocks. It has keyless entry that the PO had installed when he bought it 3 years and 30,000 miles ago. I do have a few questions about my truck.
1) My brake light stays on as if the parking brake is on, but it is not. This light stays on all the time. PO says it has stayed on since he bought it, and he just ignored it.
2) I have some rust on the liftgate on the back, and am curious what to do about that, or if I should just let that go. Hard to describe, but see the picture.
3)CD player is failing when I'm driving and I know that is common. Is it worth trying to fix or should I just forget about that and replace the head unit

Thanks again to all that have helped and will in the future!!!

O yeah, almost forgot.... :flipoff2:

Welcome to your new hobby........oh ya:flipoff2:back at ya.

1) My brake light stays on ...

First, check the adjustment on the e-brake and the brake fluid level. If those are OK then replace the cap on the brake fluid reservoir.

2) I have some rust on the liftgate...

You need to have this repaired as it will only get worse and spread.

3)CD player is failing ...

Replace the head unit. You might be able to find a used OEM unit here on 'Mud or on eBay. The easiest would be to pick up the Scion head unit as they are new and relatively cheap on eBay.

Welcome to the "open your wallet syndrome" :flipoff2:

Before you ditch the head unit, and I would rather than repair, spend some cash to base line everything. Others have had the rust issue in the same place on the tailgate. Maybe someone can chime in who fixed theirs.

Welcome, great color!

Take the truck to the body shop as soon as you can afford it. If that rust is visable from the outside it's HELLA more extensive than you can see.

A while back I had rust on my rear hatch repaired as well, it was NOT visable form the outside of the truck, but was so extensive new metal had to be welded in for the window to seal properly. Cost about $575 IIRC.

You might be better off just sourcing a good used hatch from a cruiser wrecking yard. Might be cheaper in the long run. Cruiserparts.net or NIX99 in washington are the first two that come to mind.

the only reason I didn't buy a new hatch was because I couldn't find a good white hatch and the cost of the used hatch plus painting was more than the rust repair.

First, :flipoff2: Welcome!

x2 on everything Beo said. If you reallly only want to spend about $25 plus shipping, I've got a perfectly good OEM head unit from my '94. PM me if interested.

congrats on the rig and welcome aboard :flipoff2:

check the parts for sale forum here -- someone might have a hatch that you could swap out. Based on that pic, I'd fear that you've got much more rot under that window gasket.

the brake light could be due to a faulty sensor in the cap. if it were mine, I'd get a replacement cap from CruiserDan (you can find his contact info in the vendors forum).

another option to the scion head is one from a camry if you'd prefer a single DIN to the double that you have now. if you're looking for a simple replacement, the one from brentbba sounds like a great deal.

don't forget to baseline all your fluids and miscellaneous goo.

You did not happen to buy this cruiser from a guy named Steve did you?

It looks very familiar...

great looking cruiser. welcome

welcome to the club and hope you enjoy the 80

In my experience, owners of green 94 LC's are the coolest of any of the LC owners. :flipoff2:

Congrats!

Actually this one came from a Greg, but close!!! ;)

Thanks for all of the advice on the rust/brakes/head unit. In response to this apparent war of the colors, I think we all need to step back and realize that it is the owners of all other trucks that are truely jealous of 80 owners!!! I am now partial to the green LC, but any 80 is better than no 80!;)

In response to this apparent war of the colors ...

TT,
There is no "war of the colors."

There are only facts:
Fact 1. Green sucks
Fact 2. Desert Dune over Moonglow is the best color combination.
Fact 3. All other colors are ho hum.
