I was finally able to get an FJ80 a few weeks ago and need to get it up to specks.
I am in Shawnee...how many 80's in the area ?

Anywhere to get used parts?

I have been a mini truck owner for some time, know all about those and where to source parts, just new to the FJ80 world.

Thanks,
Mike

also..for sale 1985 Toyota,ext. cab,5-speed,EFI,SR5,4x4. Very little rust DD. $1200

WELCOME!! There are two built 80s in Shawnee. Bob Garretts and Mine. I would be more than happy to show you around one, as well as help you wrench on it. I would be interested in your Mini too if Chef bows out.

Where are you located and can I call you, or you call me? kumar.cruizer.net for some of my pics. And 913.322-2822 home 913.207.5755 mobile.

...oh and I could probably help out on parts ;)

Thanks for not forgetting about me Bob! I don’t blame Kumar for not remembering as I am new to 80 ownership myself, but have had fun with the build up over the past 8 months! Both Kumar and Bob have helped answer several questions I have had while building my 80 and are great resources as well as others in TAC. More than happy to share any notes I took while deciding what mods to do as well as pictures if you like.

Not that you couldn't already with 'dem Krawlers.

I finished it up. It's a bit louder than stock (to be expected). Once on the highway though, the noise pretty much disappears. I welded back on the stock resonator, I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Is this exhaust stainless or some sort of alumnized steel...it was a @##% to weld up without doing short bursts.

So what muffler did you install? Inquiring minds want to know :D

The stock exhaust is some type of aluminized steel. CruiserDan posted the exact name of the material used in a post a while back, but I can't recall the exact name.

Well first off does anyone local have a reciever they want to sell? I would like to buy local (I did find one on mud for 75)

Also...does anyone have a front 3rd local...diff was mostly empty when I got it. Running it without front shaft as I have major play in the axel.

Looking for lockouts for staight axel asian.

Thanks,
mike

What do you need for the front 3rd? Just R&P or complete pumpkin? I have a factory 4.10 R&P and spider gears for an unlocked 80 front if that will help.

I had a SS gibson laying around for years unused...finally decided to put it in. I think MNTRT put the same unit in his truck.

If you took out your front drive shaft, can I assume you have a center diff lock switch?...if not, your transfer may be in a world of hurt. What year is your 80?

Are you looking to do a free hub conversion using aisian hubs? If so, there are some pros and cons...I will be doing a rebuild soon and am going to see if the "con" showed up in my housing :)

It is a 1991...third row/leather/running boards.

Thanks for all the replies!!! Looking forward to Crusing again(had a locked and modified 76 fj40 about 10 years ago)

I would like to do the Aisin conversion ASAP to keep the diff from running until I get it fixed.

What is the con of going with lockouts?

Thanks Bob I may need the gear set..what would the $ be? I will see what I need when I get a chance to tear into it.

Mike,

Give me a call...a few buddies and mine did the conversion. I'm too lazy to type it out. Factory lockers?

Give me a shout when you get it apart and see what you need.

oh, and if you want a professional to do your 3rds than bob and I can recommend someone. He's done 4 pumpkins for me and 2 for bob (at least 80 series). He charges 100.00 per pumpkin, you bring the 3rd to him. Name: Ron Estes. He lives up north of the river, great guy.

Kumar

He's built 5 diffs that I dropped off at once.. Great job highly recommended.

And 91 with leather? Have never seen that as an option on a 3F powered 80 series.. Cool!
91's normally had the center diff lock but no option for axle diff locks that early cause they were all semifloaters in the back and 15" wheels..
