The BJ74 has a black welt between the upper and lower fenders. I was able to order new ones for mine and it looks like it just shoves in the crack. Do the fenders need to come off to install this stuff?

If you figure out how to make the seal stay in ( especially towards the rear ) please let me know. :)

My old ones are curled, wavy and hard as a rock. The new ones are much more flexible. I think that is the fix. I just hope I don't have to take every thing apart to get them in . They are notched around the bolt holes and they have little flaps that appear to keep the welt from comming out after it is in place. I do have new lower fenders to go on it so worst case I wait until the fender swap to do it.

I gotta think the vehicle was assembled and painted before these were inserted. At least I hope so.

Here is one end of it. It also has a thin metal strip sandwiched in the middle.

I am fairly sure the fender has to come off.

Just kidding..... I don't have a clue. :D

It is hard to describe the ribs. They kinda look like chevrons with the top toward the inside. I presume that is what is supposed to keep them from comming out once installed since there are no bolt holes.

The rear portion ( the last couple of inches ) has protruded from every Cruiser I have owned. You poke it back in and within a day or so it protrudes back out. Not the best design.

No the fenders don't have to come off. But you do need to loosen all the bolts that hold the fender halves together. Some are in really tight spots so a little 1/4" socket set or ratchet ring spanners are of great assistance. They just pull out and the new ones push in. And yes, I believe the problem stems from the rubber drying out and getting hard

Do you get at them from under the hood or do you have to pull the wheel housings out?

If it requires pulling the wheel housing out I would throw the seal in the trash can and call it a day. :)

Are the welts in the US Toyota parts system?

Yes, along with the lower fenders and, believe it or not, a hood. I have a pair of fenders for mine in my office and a hood on the way.

Ah yes.....

Did he do the washer nozzles as well?

Negative sir.

That is correct mice were in really good shape.

The new hood and "food item" I have mounted on my new hood looks totally sweet:grinpimp:

I'll be ordering he felts along with maybe some new 1HZ injectors. Depends whether or not I can find somebody reputable to service the injectors locally. It is time for the 200K kms maintenance needs along with possibly adding a boost compensator. Still have 5K to go though;)

I just noticed something. I pulled out a section of the original gasket and it DOES NOT have any metal sandwiched in it. I think that may have been added to stabilize it and keep it from curling?
