I've been looking at some 1998-2000 76-series trucks, and a few have these fender-mounted mirrors. I've never had a chance to try them (and probably won't be able to before buying). Are they a pain for daily driving?

I found them challenging when merging into traffic on my left. I installed “fish eye” mirrors below the
factory mirrors which really helped. 😊

I, for one, absolutely LOVE the fender mirrors, and find them far superior to the door mounted mirrors. With both fender mirrors in field of view out the front windshield, I find that I have superior situational awareness about traffic around me. I can simultaneously see what is in front of me, and in both blind spots and both sides of me without moving my head. They have a fantastic field of view. So good, I actually find shoulder checking to be redundant. When off road, I angle them downward and have great visibility of rear tire placement on rocks and twigs and such. I can take the doors off in the summer and not worry about re-mounting mirrors somewhere. I actually bought 2 additional $ets of mirrors directly from Toyota in Japan to upgrade and replace the door mounted mirrors. They are so good, it makes me wonder how door mounted mirrors are considered 'legal' by the authorities when such an obviously superior option is readily available.

Thanks for the perspectives! Now I’m curious to try them. If I can’t get used to them, is it possible install door-mounted mirrors?

I put them on my 62 a few years ago and really like them for the same reasons Peter listed above
