Life has a funny way of changing. Bought the 60 last summer with intention to build it up into my expedition rig. Quit my job, in discussions on a few new ones which would require moving - one overseas. So, I need to figure out what to do with my stuff. Wanted to see if there is interest in my rig:

'85 FJ60, northern cal car, minimal rust (rear fender lips and tailgate)
150k, no service records
Runs ok intermittently - definitely vacuum and exhaust leaks to deal with.
Passed CA smog.

All that is currently on it, may partially part out:

OME / MAF 4" HD lift
ARB front bumper
Kaymar rear swing-away bumper
Recaro seats
Alpine stereo
VDO guages
NEW (50 mi.) 285/75 16 BFG ATs on ProComps
Most of steering rebuilt, drives pretty straight
Ron Davis radiator

Includes lots of new parts:
Full front end rebuild
Full F / R brake rebuild
Full clutch rebuild
Some other stuff...

I'd like to start the discussion around $6k and see what the interest level is. Nothing set in stone right now, but likely to sell this regardless.

Thanks

Tom

might need to convience my dad he needs this.

A perfect Christmas present! I'll even put a big bow on it!!!

Really is a solid truck though. A few blemishes to be sure, but a perfect candidate for a motor swap, minor body work / paint, and it would be awesome!

I sent you a PM/email message. I would like to see some more photos if possible of the engine and interior, and possibly the rust. Thanks.

I'll try to get more pics up soon, maybe tomorrow. Rust is minimal, an inch or two on rear fender lips, but not too bad. Minimal surface rust on frame, no major rot. A couple inches on bottom of tailgate. Interior is ok, much of rear trim replaced by PO with diamond plate, front seats worn, rear is fine. Carpet good, dash cracked. Under hood pretty dirty...

A few more thoughts:

Truck was built Apr. '85.

There was a factory roof-rack, which I guess PO removed. So, there are approx 20 (?) holes in the roof that would need to be patched. No interior water damage to be seen, but it would leak..

It's drivable, but clutch will need to be replaced soon...

Damn nice truck man.. Other than the vacuum issues are there any other running issues with it? What does "runs nice intermittently" mean exactly?

Thanks, it definitely has loads of potential...

When I bought it, it would barely do 50 on the highway - not to mention the terrifyingly bad steering. I replaced plugs, wires, caps and some vacuum line, and it runs significantly better. It'll do 70 now, and runs pretty smooth about 50% of time. When it doesn't, it stumbles, backfires and is down on power.

I'm guessing that there are exhaust / intake manifold leaks that vary with heat, and vacuum leaks. Haven't had time to sort them out, but was planning to pull manifolds, check for cracks, and install new gaskets and run all new vacuum line.

Since it passed smog, I'm guessing it's not catastrophic, just lots of little things...

So how much would you be asking for this?

Have you checked compression in the cylinders? When was last time the fuel pump/filters were replaced? Sorry just trying to get some other diagnosis info out in hopes to try and help you sell this. Hell if I had the money I would love to pick this up from you.

I'm starting the discussion @ $6k, as it sits, with all spares (possibly less the Recaros, I've had them in many vehicles and hard to let go). To some, this might be ridiculous price, to others, exactly what they are looking for...

No, I do need to get a compression test done. It's "on the clipboard" but project stalled out a few months ago due to work, house remodel and cashflow. I'll prolly start working on it again in January to continues the baseliing process. Same with fuel system, have all the parts, but...

I'll keep posting up info on this thread as I do further diagnostics, or answer questions from you all.

Cheers

Tom

OK, quick update here:

The truck is definitely for sale, $6000.00 is my asking price. I'm traveling over the next few days, but will update thread with more info or start a new one.

PM me with questions, but will not have email access from noon today until noon friday.

Thank for your interest...

Tom

Nice rig. But 6k for a rig that's runs ok "intermittantly" isnt going to happen. Look from a buyers point of view do I want to spend 6k for a vehicle that might not make it home?

Like they say there's an ass for every seat.

Get it running took 6k is readable running like s*** 3k.

Thanks for your input. When I put this up originally it was to see if there was interest, which there was, as it sat. Plans have changed, not moving, but still going to sell. Have time to work on it now and address relatively simple running issues, but hey, if someone wants to buy for my asking price as it sits, I'll take it...

Update: for all exhaust issues fixed with custom flowmaster dual exhaust, sounds good not obnoxious at all. Fixed bad distributor connection and some vacuum leaks.

Truck is running great, no more intermittent bad stuff. Idles well, pulls smoothly, and is consistent. Still have some vacuum line to replace and do clutch but ready to roll...

I'll post up a new "for sale" ad when I'm done...
