Farm Jack question...

If you get a Hi-Lift go full Heep mode and make sure you mount it on the roof rack along with empty gas cans, a garden hoe, a splitting maul, and your spare tire.

The problem with a high lift jack is that the original purpose was not to lift a truck really high but to lift a high piece of farm equipment that was already really high up just enough to fix or connect it. The other real purpose was to put a chain on it and use it to spread or pull equipment in the field. The 4x4 community started using them in the 70's for things there were never designed to do or be used for at all.
As far as exhaust jacks they have one really good purpose. That is to change a tire on really soft ground or lift a vehicle or piece of equipment up enough for it to be towed out of a hole.

I got a taller bottle jack and it worked fine when I got a flat at the cove. I will be getting some kind of axle cradle in the future though because it was sketchy lifting without one with the jack just on the axle. I don't think a high lift would have helped me in my situation.

If you have nothing else at all take your spare and put it under the axle as soon as you get it up enough. It at least gets you about 10" of clearance. As soon as you get the flat off swap it for the good tire and keep on going.

I use my 48" original hi lift jack all the time. I've changed tractor tires, lifted mower to change blades, used it as a winch to load a trailer, etc. They really are very versatile. You do need to learn how to safely use it as it will put a hurt on you or your truck if you don't know what you are doing.

I've had mine for 20 years with no problems, just the occasional lube to keep it operating smoothly. I recommend it for any kind of off roading. If you get stuck in a rut, just lift the front end all the way up and push the truck to the side to clear the ruts. Also you can use it to change your tire.;)

I use one of these with a spring perch welded upside down on the race race. I plan to build another one for the 40. I use a cordless impact to run it up and down.

I use a hi lift as a bumper. I carry a factory screw jack as my main jack.

Mount the bottle jack on yer fender.

Best of both worlds@
