Any good insight into maintenance items on a 2001 model? I have been a series 80 owner and I am looking into getting a series 100. I have looked through the FAQ's, just looking for some good base line info.

TIA, Jake

Assume you buy a 100:

I like: Toyota Red coolant and DM water 50/50. MI synthetic oils, grease and MV ATF fluid for transmission & power steering.

Make sure when packing wheel bearing you set breakaway preload to 9.5 to 15 lb on fish scale. Check snap ring gap (non reusable part) and lube axle bearing & bushing Slee - Spindle Grease Tool

S-belt tension bearing can be had for $5 at NAPA.

OEM spark plugs are best.

Make sure to disconnect battery for 30 minutes while clean MAF sensor, to reset computer. Grease battery terminals after cleaning.

A Timing Belt failure, from all reports I've seen in mud, will not kill the non VVTi 2UZ-fe engine you have.

Run a search on this forum using the term baseline. You'll get lots of great threads and posts on maintaining a 100. And I assume you saw the link in the FAQs for the factory recommended maintenance intervals.

In addition to searching for "baseline" you may also search for the following terms:

Heater T

Steering rack bushings

3rd brake light leak

Roof rack leak

I've got to get the T's & Steering rack bushings done some day. But what this "3rd brake light leak"?

My son's 2000 had this issue:
Rear Cargo Area Water Leak - How I fixed it.

What are the symptoms of worn steering rack bushings? My Tees will have to wait until my Timing belt change, which hopefully I will do next month.

On my son's LC it was a ton of slop in the steering, and a strong pull to the right when pulling away from a stop. Further investigation revealed the bushings were shot.
