Failed Door Lock Actuator R&R

So when I popped the panel off for the second time I noticed the green cable blowing in the wind. I don’t think I had secured it into it’s housing when I replaced the panel the first time and it wasn’t attached to the handle mechanism. Easy fix.

Thanks for the write up and notes on this. I’ve got an 2015 LX. I have successfully replaced the motor in the drivers side lock actuator. Unfortunately in fixing that I somehow created a new issue that is preventing the interior door handle from working. I’ve checked to ensure the cable stayed connected when reinstalling the door panel, so that is not the problem. You can pull the handle, but not action takes place so I have to roll down my window to exit. My concern is that when I replaced the motor inside the actuator that I jostled something that would affect the interior door handle from working. Any insight into what I may have done? I’ve pulled the panel and actuator off more times than I care to admit trying to troubleshoot this, so I’m hoping someone may have insight into what this issue may be.

Although cable was connected, it wasn’t riding in the groove it needed to so it wasn’t actually doing anything

Pull your front door sill trim and inspect the connectors for evidence of water ingress and corrosion.

I had identical issues when i first got my truck with both drivers side locks.

Sporadic operation, would work for a few days, then wouldnt, then would...

When i replaced them, one looked almost brand new with no dust, wear or debris build up, one looked a little older, with some minor debris build up.

Connectors all perfect, no signs of corrosion, etc...

No Rhyme or reason on my end

Going through the records... My rig had 213k when i got it. First actuator was replaced around 38k and then the others started getting replaced not long after.

After combing through all the records of mine, ALL of my acutators had been replaced at least 2x before i got the truck, and the rear drivers side 3x, so me replacing it at 215k, is now the FOURTH

No signs of water intrustion, plugs and harness look fine. No idea...

Yea, it’s really weird and frustrating. Just when I think the door lock actuator is officially dead, then it starts working again. Both of my front door actuators recently stopped working. The passenger door stopped working for about 1 week prior to the driver’s door, then they both were not working for about 4 days. Now they’re both working perfectly again. This timeline included the passenger door lock stopped working in Florida. We travelled to Colorado for a week, then on the way back the driver’s door stopped working. When we arrived back in Florida, both locks started working again. Now there were some significant weather condition, altitude and temperature changes, but this doesn’t typically affect the locks of other vehicles. ‍

When the actuators start to go out they are intermittent for a while in my experience. I ordered a 4-pack of the actuators for $20 on amazon and replaced myself. You have to pop open the assembly but not too bad if you pay attention and take your time.

When I replaced mine I didn't connect the interior or exterior handles properly the first time. Closed the door and had no way to open it lol. Had to rip the panel off with door closed to manually trigger the latch and start over. Assuming the cable is attached properly, you may have to open the assembly back up to make sure that everything is in the right place. It was pretty finicky and all the various gears and levers had to be in the exact right configuration going back together or it wouldn't trigger the mechanism properly. Sorry this is pretty hard to explain in text.

When I replaced mine I didn't connect the interior or exterior handles properly the first time. Closed the door and had no way to open it lol. Had to rip the panel off with door closed to manually trigger the latch and start over.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to this thread. Was able to get this done on my 200 in about an hour since the first time I put it together I missed the rod to the exterior handle!! $4 from Amazon and good as new!!

Replaced my driver's actuator on my 2013 LC...thanks @ayaws for the instructions.
Everything works as it should with the buttons, fob, outside button and emergency key, HOWEVER, now when I shut the door with it locked, it unlocks automatically. So open the door to get out, lock the LC with the inside button, shut the door and only that door is unlocked. Use the fob or outside handle button to lock it once the door is closed and it stays locked. I assume I missed something, but have no idea what. Any ideas? Thanks!

I could be mistaken - but I thought you were unable to lock an open door.

Had to do this again yesterday. Drivers side door this time (did the passenger door last year). Pretty easy the second time around.

We were running errands, came out of a store and the drivers door wouldn't unlock. I still had 3 of the motors left from the 4 pack I bought last year so I just went ahead and swapped it out when we got home. Took a little over an hour. The only tricky part is getting the actuator open and put back together correctly. But not too bad.

All-in-all it was under 2 hours from initially acting up to being fixed. Highly recommend keeping some motors in the garage shelf inventory.

Reviving this great thread again, thought I would add to it so if someone is searching they can find everything here

As others have mentioned there are some very helpful videos starting with this one LX front door panel removal

After the panel is removed I found this video very helpful, the lock actuator replacement process was exactly the same on the LX as the GX here

For rear doors it should be easier as you don't have to remove the lock cylinder, in this video he's replacing the door handle but has to move the actuator aside so replacing it would be very similar steps here

Some notes on my replacement of the lock actuator in the drivers side front

as others mentioned once the main door panel is off you do have to remove this outer trim piece also to get to the torx bits that hold the actuator

I did remove the outer lock to make the install easier, once this screw is loosened from the outer side of the the door the cap can be pried off and the lock easily removed

to move the window track bar out of the way to remove and install the actuator

when installing the actuator and fitting the emergency key rod as everyone said you have to get it set in blind but after a few minutes or what seemed like minutes I got it to go in

Lastly, to re-install the panel I did remove the top trim piece and placed it on with the window down and that made putting the rest of panel fitment easy

I did not attempt to replace just the motor inside, now that I have the old one I will get a motor and use the old one for practice on how to replace

Despite some online sites saying only the old part number, 69040-42250, would work, I found there is newer part number that replaced the old, 69040-0C050 and this is what I ordered, works great

It’s not too bad and very satisfying when it’s fixed. Critical advice is to buy the plastic tools…essential to not mar the surfaces when you pry open the plastic casings.
