be nice if we had a web page that was complete, updated and accessible. I let the domain expire as nobody was updating anything. Could not get members rigs updated or any of the documentation and work completed in the website for months (trail maps, contact info, conservation group links, youth education, photo galleries, youtube links, etc). Maybe someone will step up and buy the domain to get website running again like before...if not we can just put things on the facebook page for those that do that type of thing.

I think they will release the domain to the public in 30 days if anyone is interested.

What I would do.

Set up a FB account. Spend 5 min a month doing very little updating. You just need to copy and paste stuff you already have. Don't look at facebook as a way current members stay up to date. Look at FB as an advertisement. A free advertisement. Nothing more.

As David and I discussed this week. I'm sure Lenny would be able to set up a page for y'all under the UC umbrella like we have done twice already. The template once setup is easy to use and you can do the updating.

Get woody to set you up with a LC calendar. It's also free advertising.

I'll help admin/maintain the club FB page if you need volunteers...

Facebook

We really need to have a meeting, appoint a commission to study the concept, blame myspace because we didn't think of using their site first, and then, and only then, appoint a czar to run the site.

In other words...Greg you have our blessing, looking at the feedback, everyone thinks it is a good idea. Mylene said she could help also. If we have several people responsible, changes and updates could be made while you are in school, drill, etc.

We may decide we like this better than another web site?

Here are things I gave to our webmaster to put into website that I will give to anyone that wants it...as long as I can find it all still on my backup drive....

1. member rigs
2. Maps, website links, contact info, gps coordinates, etc of all areas we wheel on regular basis or have once before (durhamtown, uwharrie, gulches, cullhowhee, carlina beach, etc)
3. childrens page with links to training and information for Tread Lightly, Blue Ribbon Coalition, US Forest Service, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
4. Albums for every Lowcountry sponsored event
5. Area for video footage of events and members to be linked from youtube
6. Area for new members to enter information, vehicle, personal, volunteerism, etc
7. Single page for Sparks Toyota to advertise their dealership
8. Page for all club vendor/supporters to have a GIF and linked URL
9. Visitors Log for people to put what they think of site, submit info for membership application, or to come and check us out.
10.Volunteer points of contact with Forestry (we did first job with them in Awendaw at trail head last year)...SC DNR....Coastal Conversation League

I think I still have everything on backup...plus Josh has everything plus whatever he did on current website.

Good luck.

well if you gave all that stuff to the web master then who is responsible to make sure it's applied? have you told anyone to do it since you are not an officer anymore?
Seems like you've done a lot but somewhere someone has failed. We don't even have a web site anymore that you had designed. What happened?

No wonder you webmaster won't respond. You got way to much crap for a club of LC's size. Basically your asking for a professional site. Heck even UC doesn't have all that.

KISS. Push people to MUD and make them go to the website for specific things.

the member that offered to do it on his own said it was NO PROBLEM.....hahahaha

I am not sure how you figure it is too much....but the web guy volunteered to do it...first step was main page, calendar, member rigs and an album for our events pictures. Never got finished after first month....unchanged since then.

I was doing it myself until I ran out of server space because of all the events and photographs we had of our activities....and only gave it up as he volunteered. getting it laid out was hard part....the rest is just adding pages and links. Did not have to be fancy....hell I was doing it with Frontpage myself before.

I am member of another club that has photo albums, sponsor pages, calendar linked to google calendar so it is easy to update and see....instead of posting the maps and such online though...they had a whole bunch of thumb drives made with club decal on them and loaded everything to them...and sent to membership with new stickers after annual dues are paid. So now I have a thumb drive with club logo on it that has maps, links, contact info and safety checklist for every offroad area in their region plus contact info for other paid club members.

Just depends on how much you want to do...

Maybe that is why it never got done...and why we will only have facebook now...but that is okay as we figure out what the club really is about and wants to do based on the memberships input and support.

I like the thumb drive idea. But I don't think most members will ever use it. I'd ask Boot to see what he could do for you. You are all UC members and we do try to take care of our own. Plus we already pay for the bandwidth so adding another site cannot be that hard considering you already use frontpage which is what UC uses I think.

I'd be happy to make professional maps for you - just let me know what you need.

Ste ve @ Sout he ast Overla n d ditty coooom

ETA: I have several maps that I have started (around six) with a few near completion that I am going to host on my website. Would you want to just link to those? That would be better as updates, especially to existing maps would only have to occur to one page and not two.

Trollhole,
Did you ever get my PM I sent about 3 weeks ago about the steering box?

Facebook is addicting haha

Ok then. I will start the page tomorrow and post the link. I would do it today, but it is Father's day and we are heading to the waterpark!
