I am in need of a fabricator that can put a 1HD-T/ H55 in a 1964 FJ40.

I just deployed to Afghanistan and will be back in October. I am hoping to have the engine and tranny installed while I am gone so that I can start building the rest of it when I get back. I was hoping to do it before I deployed but the engine was coming with my household goods from Okinawa and didn't arrive in the states until after I deployed.

Cruiser is on Pendleton in storage and the engine is in 29 Palms in TMO storage. My brother has access to it and can bring it down to SD and get the cruiser and engine wherever it needs to go.

Semper.

There are several shade tree types here in town and also a full on shop (SDtrux) that could help you out.

I'd be happy to help you out if I can before I leave for there too.

Hopefully, some of the other guys will post up.

This rig needs a lot of work but has a very straight body and the 1HD-T sounds like fun. The biggest issue we discussed is having a place to keep it while it gets worked on. It needs SBC mounts removed, steering evaluated (no column/wheel etc.), brakes reviewed, seats, switches, knobs and all the little stuff can wait. Parking brake on the split case will be another issue.

I think we have enough people around that are willing to help out a brother in afghanistan but we need a spot it can be worked on. Paying a shop to do this is cost prohibitive IMO. If we can score a resting place for it to be worked on we could discuss a few weekends to at least get the motor/H55 in.

Alister... Did the H55 come in? Split case attached or separate? Do you have a plan for incidental parts costs if we run with this thing? We will obviously need to make some purchases (motor mounts, etc) to get this thing going. I'm happy to front a few bucks if we need to until you get back.

Suggestions anyone?

Dom, I put this to the board because I felt you were already bending over backwards for me with all the help you have already provided.

I am still working getting the shipping figured out so the split case will stay attached. He is also hitting up his buddy that has several 40s in the yard to get additional parts to add in the shipment.

I can easily send you a check as a retainer for all parts needed.

Thanks for everything Dom!

Devildoglt, fellow Marine here... Let me know if I can be of any help. I fly to 2-9 on a fairly regular basis so if you need some small parts brought back that you can get to the EAF, I might be able to bring them back to SD. PM me for details... Dave

Dave,

Is a 1HD-T engine considered "small parts?" I mean it is only 1k lbs!

Thanks for the offer. I really only have the engine up there right now. everything else is on Pendleton but I will definitely keep you in mind.

When it is all said and done and I got this thing up and running you will have to drive yours up and we can go play in the high desert a little bit.

Develdoglt,
I've got a place you can use to keep it while it's being worked on..... I don't have much time to help out with family and my own projects, but you're welcome to keep/work on it at my shop in Oceanside. Let me know.......Dom know's where it is...

Develdoglt,

I am in east Temecula area and could help out with transporting engine from 29 palms to O-side if needed. We have some good mudders up in the I.E who also can help if needed.

I also have room for short or long term storage( 5-acres)- already storing vehicles for other mudders ;)- so one more wont hurt.

Let me know what I can do to help-

If you need it hauled from the Stumps to Tims or south let me know, I work in Joshua Tree and as long as I dont have to go near that fricking Naval Hospital I am more than willing.
