Lots of good threads about using vice grips and a block of wood to remove the old PCV valves from the 80 series valve cover, but I wanted a technique that was a bit more controlled and less prone to me messing up.
I fabbed up these custom bolts for a bearing splitter I have (MAC Tools PB1122). The MAC web site says these are 3/8" diameter, 18 TPI bolts. But after several attempts, I just could not make a bolt of that size fit. A little masking tape and pencil inside the bolt hole showed that these are actually 16 TPI. Further measurement showed that the diameter is a little smaller than a standard 3/8" (0.375") thread, so your standard hardware store bolt does not work.
Anyways after several trial and error attempts I got them dialed in. I made the bolt heads an inch long so that I (or someone else) don't later mistake them for a normal 3/8 bolt.
With these, I convert the bearing splitter to a nice, small diameter puller.
