So i have a chance to pick up a 1FZ for 500 bucks. it has a 127k miles. my cruiser is at 245k. would this be dumb of me or no?

Wow, at that price, assuming it is working and has average wear for 127K, in my opinion, you would be dumb NOT to get it (not calling you that if you dont, just trying to reword the question). This is a steal of a deal, again, assuming... HTH :cheers:
 
it would depend how your motor runs. What is your oil consumption? If it's like 1 quart every 5k then I'd pass on the engine, your's is fine. Unless of course you E-Bay it once you got your hands on it. That thing would be worth quite a bit more than 500.00 for some one with a blown motor in their truck.
 
Buy it and stick it in your 60.
 
Is it the same year so all the electronics will be plug & play?

A Toyota mechanic called that starting ping, "Piston Slap". He said it is not the sound of doom, as I initially thought. He stated that "it is what it is" and not the grounds for a rebuild or swap. I tend to believe this as this decision sounds based more on experience than money.

BTW, I would buy the motor for $500 just because its $500. I am sure you could use it down the road.
