I bought my 2008 with this spot already there, it looks nasty and sort of like previous owner tried to fix with a knife or something. I tried asking at a few local body shops but they said they only do insurance work and sent me packing. I have zero body work experience. I found a local tailgate from a junkyard, it’s the right color and from a 2007. Looks fine. They want $600 for it. What would you folks do in my place? Try and fix it yourself? Find a local shop? Buy the replacement tailgate? I’m obviously clueless here and just want that damn spot out. Thanks and that is just my car covered in pollen, springtime in New England…

For $600 dollars I’d just replace it. Especially if it’s the same color. It would cost a lot more to get that fixed!

100% this.

Thanks, I think I will go ahead. I’m assuming a 2007 will fit a 2008, the 07 is missing a tiny strip of chrome at bottom of window but I think it’s purely aesthetic.

It will cost more than $600 to have it professionally fixed. Swap it out but be sure the new one has same features (backup cam, ML speakers, etc.) Don't forget to connect your rear washer fluid hose, it's a bitch to get to for the hatch.
