All,

Thanks for reading my post!

I would like to be able to turn on a light by pressing a button on my garage door opener or HomeLink. Then I would like the light to turn itself off after about 15 minutes and reset so the same single button turns it on again next time.

The remotes for my garage door have three buttons. The maker (Craftsman) offers a lighting control module that will turn on and off with the remote but I think it requires the user to turn the lights off manually.

Any ideas?

TIA

if you're electronic savy, then a resistor and a 555 timer with some diodes and a relay on a board will allow the relay to fire for a predetermined amount of time, then shut off. Not sure if you'll be able to utilize the door opener spare button for this, or if you'll just need to provide your own pushbutton- could be integrated to the timer board. A package can be purchased from various remote switch retailers that will allow you to operate from remote via a key fob or cell phone or ethernet. these options are based upon a PCB assembly and would need to be housed somehow- project box with led indicator and pushbutton could be mounted next to door opener... now you said something about a remote...do you need the switched leg to be operated wireless(relay located at fixture operated remotely with timer held contact> one box with reciever and relay with 555 timer at fixture or near enough to hard wire to fixture; second box at door opener with pushbutton and transmitter or a key fob or both) Not certain of an off the shelf kit to do exactly what you want, but I'd give a look at this place for starters http://www.controlanything.com/ I am pretty sure that there is a switch there that will accept bluetooth or ethernet promts that are also capable of running small scale program logic>for the timer end of your circuit, and I know they have fob operated stand alone remote switches...HTH

It's not elegant but I think I have a solution.

Thanks for your replies they got me thinking about building a box myself.

Everything I need is already inside the garage door opener and they are compatible with the remotes and HomeLink that I'm already using. The openers set the lights on and turn them off with a timer whether you're opening or closing so that part will always be ready for the next button press.

So I will just buy off eBay or Craig's list another opener that is remote compatible with our current ones.

Then I'll disable the motor and tap into its light outputs.

Cheers!
