Looking to move from my 2001 LC to a 2009 or 2010 LC with about 50K miles. Anyone have experience with aftermarket extended warranties or even Toyota extended? What is a reasonable price and what companies did people go through? Or is this just a waste? I bought one pretty cheap on my 2001 and it paid off when i had ticking manifolds replaced and a few other little things. Frankly though all the electronics are what bother me, that kind of stuff can get pricey to diagnose and fix. Any insights are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Eric

Why through Lexus? I've bought some before from Toyota and received good pricing ~$1400 for Platinum plan, 8 yrs, 125k miles. Going through Lexus will guarantee higher prices perhaps, but still be a Toyota warranty.

I'd get a Toyota Certified, I'm not so sure a 3rd party would be worth anything. Sounds like you've had luck in the past with aftermarket, but most are junk.

To my knowledge if a Toyota is not already listed as a Toyota Certified vehicle it's very expensive to go through the certification process after the fact. So you have to pay for the certification which is a comprehensive inspection, then pay for the warranty.

we should be clear here. we're talking about warranties. a so-called "certified" used vehicle being sold on dealer lots should still bring with it a healthy measure of pre-purchase caution.

I personally went thru buying a "certified" lexus used vehicle and ended up with a new one after some haggling as the certified car had been in a collision. so much for their cert process. dealers don't care so long as the carfax checks out and their visual inspection is in order.

amir, you got a KILLER deal on your extended warranty. i have one on mine bought new a few months ago and i paid ~$2K for 7 yrs and 75k miles. i was mainly concerned with the electronic doo-dads on the 200, but honestly if i were to do it again i would've opted out. it's a toyota for heaven's sake.

Well that was the price I paid on my new 07 4runner. I'm sure it's more money now 7 yrs later.

Yes of course always use caution with anything used. However, a Toyota Certified Pre-Owned Warranty is about the best you can get as far as Warranty coverage is concerned.

Any Toyota Dealership that is under the same ownership as a Lexus Dealership will most likely not work on your Lexus. It is quite frequent that both Toyota and Lexus dealerships have the same owners.
