The Nav system is a Pioneer AVC D3

Looks great! Looks a lot like the WARN rear. Also looks like it will be compatible with the new Lucrum rear tire/jerry can holder/rack system. I know it is compatible with WARN, so based on the similar design, it should work here too. I may have to stick some lights where those W cutouts are in my bumper! I have one of the first Lucrum racks coming and I'll post up an install so you can see. Again... Looks awesome!

I'm sold

Well, your photos/write up and other stuff on this forum sold me. Expedition One bumpers, front and rear, now on order. I think I researched everything out there, and for my likes and purposes narrowed down to the ARB, Warn and Exp 1. In the end, I really like the clean lines, approach angles and the fact that I don't have to ditch a perfectly good hitch (that I use regularly) and pay for a custom hitch to accommodate the bumper.

Aside: The folks at Expedition One were very professional and up-front when contacted. The popularity of their gear and hitting the market with this new rear bumper put a bit of a wait on an my order, it seems, but I'm betting the wait won't be too long and the end result will be well worth it. I'll be keeping this rig...

I think you will like it as much as we do. We get comments on the looks all the time and we know that it has functioned so well in the field. Make sure you get some good protection under the FJ also ! Good luck, ask any questions if you need when you get your bumpers.

Airbag Sensors

I'm reading through the threads here and this being my first post, I have a question to throw out there. What are the issues that I might encounter with airbag sensors when I put on my expedition bumpers?

One other question, do you know what the angle of approach is on the front expedition bumper?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

The inertia detectors (or whatever you call the airbag sensors) are not mounted in the bumper, so no matter what bumper you put on the stock airbag function is still present. ARB is the only bumper manufacturer to actually crash test theirs AFAIK, but I'm not worried about my Demello bumper buggering the airbags since all the stock sensors are still in their original untouched location.

I've been waiting for this. I have the Expedition One front with brush guard and LOVE it. ARB makes terrific products but I think this one looks the best with the FJC.

My avatar pic was taken right as I just about tore my rear bumper off and scraped the hell out of it and I've been living with it for over a year waiting for this bumper to come out.

Couple questions...do your backup sensors still work? What lights did you go with in the bumper? Between the lights on the Gobi rack and those in the bumper, there's gonna be a lotta light back there!

Can't really see the bumper in this pic, but you can see what the hoop on the front bumper looks like and the angle of it...

Thanks for clarifying the airbag issue.

Getting back to the angle of approach, I found a good discussion on this subject involving a comparison of the Warn winch bumper vs. the All Pro.

Having read that I'm no longer entirely interested in either Warn or All Pro front bumpers, but the angle of approach makes sense. Do you have any idea how the Expi 1 compares?

with respect to angle of approach, I have had little problem with the Exped 1 bumper - I find I hit the frame below the radiator core support first (yes, the factory recovery points are removed). I have, on occasion, rode up the lower edge of the Exped 1 bumper as a ramp on the outer edge, but never really hung up on it.

Thanks for the info. That helps a lot.

One last question. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but are there any hi-lift jack points on the bumper? It looks like there are some on the rear one, but I can't tell on the front one.

Thanks a million!

There are many locations to use the Hy Lift jack on the Ex 1 bumper. I also have the Hy Lift accesorry with the chain with the hook shaped lift that works great. As for the lights in the bumper, they are PIIA driving lights front and rear, good enough for great backing at night and our rear camera is super with the lights at night. As for approach and departure angles on these bumpers, for us, there has just been zero issues.

That's about everything I wanted to hear! Ima go buy one right now. Thx!

Do the backup sensors still work?

Yes they do, everything is fully functional. Simple 2 minute installation from the old to the new. We also added a back up camera.

Its been a while since the last post, and I have been checking the Expedition One site periodically since first seeing and loving their rear bumper. I still do not see the rear bumper being sold on the site. Under the FJC section "More coming soon......" Is it possibly being sold any where else? Any insider info?

Call or e mail them at Expedition One ( James )and ask the status or to have one made. I was the first to get one and they found to make the bumper match the locations of the plastic inserts and also make the rear door open was very difficult. Using their conventional welding methods, they had heat warpage which screwed things up. I know they spent too many hours on mine to make it profitable. Maybe they have an improved approach now. We love our rear bumper and it works and looks great. One of the best mods we did to ours overall. As for competitors, Demello ( Jason ) made a rear that was very close to Expedition One and I think they had an initial run near 20 but like Ex 1, I don't think they offer on their web site but again call. Good Luck! :bang:
