See the link - the world at night.

I'll hazard a guess that 90% of the forum is not too far from light. In the lower 48, my back yard is the largest dark spot around (Eastern Oregon, Most of Nevada, Part of SW Idaho, & part of Utah).

Makes it hard for most of USA to experience anything close to true Expedition travel, or for that matter Scouting travel. Although I hope the trip stories start showing up on this thread. Regardless of how remote (or not) our trips are, they are almost always better than where you are sitting right this second. Bob

Just look at BAJA..... it's calling me

that is a really cool pic . central asia looks like a worth while trek.

you do not want to go there to many banditos

Don't think that is true.

The night lights imagery does underestimate the population in Africa because of availability of electricity and so forth. Still would be a great place to go. Bend, Oregon is looking a little brighter these days but close to the darkness...

We Canadians are still in the dark, so to speak. :) Not many Banditos either.

Cool,
you can see the highway from Vancouver to Prince George, then west to the coast. Nothing around them but logging roads in the mountains. Prime expedition territory.
Cheers,
Deny

Prime Expedition territory, or prime Mosquito territory? :)

Prime Expedition territory, or prime Mosquito territory? :)

Both:doh:, On a good note, our BC mosquitos have yet to carry the West Nile Virus!

Japan looks like a giant glowing dragon...cool.

I have used a high res version of that image as my desktop background for the past 3 years.

Thanks, Bob. Interesting that you can even pick out Bermuda and the Maldives.
