Hey guys, I took my truck to a Toyota dealership to diagnose a check engine light, and they told me its the sensor on bank 1 sensor 1. They told me the exhaust system was too rusty to replace just the sensor, because trying to "force it" may cause more problems. I am not mechanically inclined at all, so I have no idea if this is true or not. They recommended putting in a whole new exhaust system into the truck at the cost of around $5,000. Does anyone have any slightly cheaper recommendations? Is this even necessary, or will the truck run fine with the sensor error? Apparently the frame is pretty ok, just the exhaust is rusted.

Pictures of the current exhaust?

You can DIY, using OEM or aftermarket for way cheaper than $5k.

I would stop taking your 20 year old vehicle to the dealer. They have shotgun approach to most repairs. Find a good independent mechanic. This is an easy job, IF you can get the old sensor off. Denso is the OE supplier for the O2 sensor and will be much cheaper. Even the connector is an exact fit.

Do you have a link to the Denso sensor for bank 1 sensor 1? I've tried to find one in the past but my mechanic told me I bought the wrong part, it was bank 2 or something.

I replaced my failing OEM muffler with a new OEM I purchased from www.partsouq.com.

If you search the forum, you will see Borla, Doug Thorely, MagnaFlow,

Look on Rockauto for Denso sensors.

Depends on your model year. It's best to state your Year/Model in your signature.... as most folks do. You said you were "not mechanically inclined at all." This is a good place to start. You can't really screw it up much worse than it already is. Bank 1 is a particular side of the engine that has cylinder one. In our case ( 2UZ-FE engine), it is on the left side ("Left" when sitting in the drivers seat). Sensor 1 is upstream aka pre-catalytic converter and closer to the engine.

I would also suggest you buy a code reader. Even a cheap one on Amazon is like $25. Also some penetrating spray. I use PB Blaster. Let it soak.

Thank you! Just ordered Denso 234-4169 on Amazon, hope its the right fit.

unless it is leaking or has holes in it, the exhaust is most likely fine.
I've gotten my last few sensors at Napa, they can get the Denso's in a day usually.

NONE !!!

the rebar is a nice touch

What happen to the Gibson system? Doesn't look like they make one for the LC100 anymore.
