Just buy that new welder you want and make your own. Plain old steel is easy, stainless steel exhaust is not difficult, either. If you want some scrap ss tube to practice on, I can supply, just pay the shipping.

Ok, after falling asleep at the wheel while doing 65 mph down the highway the other night, then doing some spontaneous wheeling alongside the road, my exhaust is now worse than ever and needs replacing - pretty much the whole thing.

So Junk, you did not specify whether you were awake during that spontaneous wheeling session! Seriously though, I'm glad you are okay.
To fix the exhaust, first choice - I would research a local "Junk" yard and pull the part, second choice - let me call my local junk yard for ya and see what they have, third choice - let all the other fawkers on the forum call their local junk yards and we can have a junkyard telethon for ya (think of it as all of us collectively taking searching to the ultimate level) , fourth choice - research a smaller exhaust shop with good BBB ratings and get them to do it. If you go the shop way, I'd leave as much of the original mangled exhaust on the vehicle so they can study and recreate it. On my 4Runner I had the entire exhaust replaced by a local shop the shop rate was not particularly low but still out the door with new cat, new muffler and new aluminized 2.5 inch tube it was $285. Then again, welding is so much fun but you're gonna get to spend a lot more than 285 for a good welder. HTH. Again, good that you are okay after the spontowheel!!!
Junk,
Depending on how quickly you need to deal with this I may be pulling my entire stock system - minus the cats maybe - sometime early next week. Moreover, I'll be driving to Morgantown, WVA next weekend so it might be el cheapo to get to you. PM me if you want to mess with that route.

I re-modified my exhaust today. I had it so bent at one point the muffler was rubbing on the driveshaft. It is just an ignorant damn way to run an exhaust system. There has got to be a better routing and I'm gonna find it if I have to route it through the frame.
I strongly concur with looking for a smaller shop that does custom exhaust work if you don't want to do it yourself. Avoid the chains (midas, meineke, etc.) like the plague. Lots of small business general mechanics also do custom exhaust work. If you can make decent welds, doing it yourself is actually pretty easy. Get a Catco generic cat from Summit Racing and price cruiserdan vs. http://www.oxygensensors.com/ for the sensors.
Thanks Clownmidget - appreciate it. Let me keep looking at what I can do around here before I have you waste time helping me.
Yooper, I'd definitely do this myself but my failure to grasp much of the exhaust terminology has me scratchin both my head and my other end (note to self to not mix up hands).
When you say generic cat, keep in mind I have 2 cats and this is an OBDII truck. Can you give me any specifics I need to look for?
Re the welder, I have a tig machine now, so that's no issue, was just planning on adding a MM210 to the garage soon.
Hey Junk why dont you bring the that crappy ride down here so we can get it on the lift and see what it really needs .
you maybe able to get by with fixing up the old with a little weld here and there and poss a couple of new gaskets .
