I want to thank all of you who helped. I just did the consensus and routed the exhaust behind the tires and down and guess what it worked- no more blow back. I also found the ground it was my new tach which I temporarily disconnected-I used the light idea and it worked to show the offending circuit; now of course I have to determine why it was shorting out.

New question what speedo cables fit a 350 tranny any of the Toyota ones or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks for sharing your results. I also pointed mine down and its not as bad. It goes straight out the back. Guess I could route it behind the tires.

Hey can you fill me in on your problem, I just put new header on and haven't put the exhaust or tail pipe on. Was gonna have it come out in front of the driver side wheel. Is that gonna cause me problems? Do I need to bring it all the way to the rear. Thanks

It needs to behind the rear wheels and be pointed down. I personally would put it on the pass side, farther from me the driver.

In front or behind

When I asked this question a few weeks back, I had a dual exhaust that went directly out the back. The blow back into the cab was bad. Most responses were for single exhausts and routed it behind the passenger wheel. I kept the dual exhaust as I need the flow- I had supercharged the 350 . If you were doing it to a standard Chevy 350 one recommendation was for RAMs horns from a corvette, dual cats, crossover to muffler and single exhaust passenger side behind rear wheel. stock responses were different and you might find them in tech.

As the weather cooled down I felt a cold draft around my feet, checked around and found the steering colum boot was all but gone so I stuffed some rags in there. 1st improvement was what I was trying to do, 2nd was a much improved noise level, 3rd was a surprise, It greatly improved the exhast in the cab, It is fairly new 2.5 inch exhast with no leaks so I have to assume that there is a backdraft under the 40 at certain speeds, mine dumps in back of the drivers side wheel.

After your improvement I will get a down pipe on and hopely slow down the headaches.

I have less-than-fond memories of following a Jeep who had his dual exhausts turned down. This thing created a dust cloud when the dust was there to be disturbed - plus the driver looked damn funny after a day on the Dusy, all filthy. He kept calling the trail 'the Dusty'.

Anyway, he later ran them out the side behind the rear tires, and the problem was fixed. Just my input on exhaust outlets that 'point down'

This thread brought back memories of that first Dusy trip - so thanks for the memory trigger, however you run your pipes!
