Hmmm, what would cause the very bad pinging under load?

Bad nock sensor?

No check engine light.

bad fuel could be the cause.

Fill the tank with premium and see what happens

Check:

Fuel
Filters
Plugs
Timing(is it adjustable in these?)
If not make sure the CAS is reading accurate

New plugs last year, fuel filter is my next stop.

Original owner had a full service, timing belt, water pump the full meal deal a week before I got it.

We are going to runn a tank of higher octane through it first.

Thanks

I'd suggest checking for a cracked manifold...does it knock after warm?

Octane boost and high octane gas did not solve the problem...

Exhaust manifold could be the problem, check engine is now on and sometimes flickers on off?

Could be a bad engine coil- had similar thing happen twice- if the codes for random misfire and misfire cylinder#_ then you probably have a bad coil

A cracked manifold should not trip a CEL...but I would think if a bad coil was the issue, it would happen all the time irregardless of throttle? Anyway - I'd say "no" on the manifold b/c of the CEL.

Thanks for all the suggestions, need to get this thing plugged into a Modus and find out what codes its throwing.

Had a bad coil last year and replaced it, the vehicle did respond quite a bit differently than it does now. Big loss of power and very rough idle, so I think it is something else.

We have a winner, number one coil shot.

This is the second one in a year or so, should I look at upgrading the coils to a higher output if available?

Rob

I haven't lost any yet with 137k, but do carry a spare coil just in case.
