I'm about to slap on a set of Terra Grapplers. My only concern is the 2 ply sidewalls.

Has anyone chewed up the sidewalls to the point of ruining the tires, or even getting stranded?

Back in my newb days I had a 99 tahoe with terra grapplers and would go mudding in the car. The sidewalls did seem very weak compared to my mtrs. I had some big gashes that were borderline to whether or not they jeopardized the intergrity of the tire. Personally, I didn't do anything extreme enough to merit the size of these gashes.

I have never had any trail problems with them, not for the lack of trying, lots of rocky Arizona trail miles on them. Some minor surface scratches in the sidewalls and some minor tread chunking, that is to be expected with the use that they have had. Six guys in our club that wheel their junk run them, to my knowledge none has had trail damage.

Toolrus is modest. I heard of an extreme sidewall stress situation on his truck with the Nitto tires several years after purchase. This was after considerable opportunity for dry rot to set in. It was one of several. No problems reported so far.
Number of plys is a poor measure of durability. I had a set of highly rated 3-ply sidewall tires that performed very poorly in reality. I poked holes in them left and right! To flex correctly, sidewall plys must be soft, and must remain so after years of use under high temperatures. Strength has to rely on the rubber compound to resist heat and remain flexible so that it can resist damage over a long period of time. A harder compound will give a great initial rating, but will become stiff sooner, leading to failure.
Anyone can advertise a thicker sidewall with a higher initial puncture resistance. But a softer rubber that will not stiffen with age requires a little more effort. The track record is proof.
Anyone with problem situations post up. I have heard of none.

Over a year on my Nittos and no problems what-so-ever. They are barely starting to see some wear. I have 25k miles on em.
