Ever been ticketed for not registering a boat with electric trolling motor

Hi all,

We are thinking about buying an electric trolling motor to occasionally use with our canoes. I think that I read somewhere that a motorized watercraft in Arizona is a watercraft with any kind of motor. Canoes currently do not have to be registered, but according to the definition above would require it with the trolling motor. For the lengths of our boats, that would be $30 each per year for the very few times we would use the motor. Seems kind of excessive.......So......therefore my question.

Can't say I have....or that I have a canoe with a motor in it...

But something tells me a fine would be more than the $30...so I'd do it if its necessary.

Give the Game and Fish a call.

I wonder if it would also apply to one of these, I've been thinking of getting one.

interesting, when did they do away with it ?

we still needed registrations in 2001

from http://www.dmv.org/az-arizona/boat-registration.php

"It is actually the Arizona Game and Fish Department, not the Motor Vehicle Division, that handles the registration and titling of boats. Watercraft powered by gas or electric motors need to be registered, while those powered by paddle, oar, or sail do not."

Interesting, so I guess the 15 horse merc mounted on the back is out of the question:hillbilly:

On a serious note, I thought a electric trolling motor would be handy on a windy day.
