SILVER Star
Just made a cannonball run from Delhi, LA where I'm working for the next few months over to Shreveport to pick up my new pickup. I've been searching for a few weeks for either a 4-wheeler/trailer or a pickup for work.
During rural seismic operations I end up walking way more that I want to in order to avoid putting my 100 in the mud. This pickup solves that problem, carries my boat and will be sporty around town and on the trail.
It's a desirable year because it is the last year of the solid front axle, first year for EFI. Extra cab is a bonus.
CL add popped up Monday afternoon. The owner was duck hunting at Toledo Bend until today at 11:30 when he gave the go ahead for me to come check it out. I rented a U-Haul in Delhi and was there at 2:00. The truck was originally purchased by the seller's grandfather, passed to his dad and then to him. They rebuilt the motor before he went to college, 60K and 8 years ago. Garage parked for the last 3 years as an extra vehicle.
My plan is to fix some little stuff, baseline it and then leave it alone. No build plans... so far. I'm staying in a crew house in Delhi, so I'll bring my tools over and tinker in the small garage in the evenings. Better than TV, to be sure.
Immediate needs are:
- rebuild auto locking hubs or source some selectable hubs (prefered)
- new battery
- fix leaky manifold (striped bolt)
- bolt down the warn 8K winch that's just sitting in the bumper right now
- remove the plastic toolbox, possibly replace
Next stage:
- re-cover seats
- fix AC (summertime)
- springs since they are shot
- soundproofing for the interstate.
- stop some small cancer spots
- remove a funny college-stage speaker box in the back
The 100 did great towing, even in the rain. Rear springs are shot, but the weight and tow car positioning of the u-haul trailer contributed to that. Trailer is designed such that you have to put the car all the way forward.
