The Baby Faemina might be a nice mobile/camp espresso machine! I have a super nice Caravel VAM 1.2 but am reticent to get it banged up hauling it around from campsite to campsite in the LC. Presumably the same concern for your Baby (s) ;).
 
Yeah... The Baby is not camping friendly... I have a couple of uninteresting stove top espresso pots that I could take camping but I am usually one of those guys that'll drink what my buddies brew up. Plus one of our crew makes some nasty good Turkish coffee when he's around... It'll do the job for sure.
 
would there be a re-homing opprotunity for a Portapresso in the future?

you guys should try this,
it's a friend of mine and he gets the beans after traveling to the plantations and investigating.

Last year he got the number one rated coffee in the world, and he was one of three to get the beans.
Pretty amazing stuff.

they have a collective also, get two bags a month sent to you in the mail.

I need a quieter grinder.

I've had the same espresso set up for about 6 years. A Fiorenzato Colombina (single boiler, Faema e61 grouphead) and a Le'Lit PL53 grinder. I have zero complaints about the grind quality or durability, but the Le'Lit is loud as all hell. I know I could cut down the volume a little by keeping the hopper full, but I generally like to measure my beans into the hopper for each double shot.

I imagine the quietest route would be a manual grinder, but my main concern there is speed. If I go with the Orphan Pharos, am I going to regret it while I stand there grinding?

My morning routine is one latte and one cappuccino.
 
FWIW I can grind, using my Mahlgut Grist MG-1 faster, bean entry to filling the basket, than my former Mazzer Mini-B.

Pharos adds a little more time on both sides...
 
Compared to the Baratza I was using, the Pharos (sold) and now the Mahlgut MG-1 hand grinder are actually both faster than the electric, believe it or not.

The Pharos took about 30 turns of the crank for a 16g dose, the MG-1 about 20.

Maybe 10-15 seconds of effort.
 
If anyone is looking for a decent entry-level (or permanent level) bare-bones espresso machine, there is one ending in a few days on eBay. Used, these usually end around the $250-350 range.

Three of us on here run this same model, and it is as capable as the person operating the lever. These are like FJ40s... very simple devices and completely rebuildable.

ugh, Yellow? it's like a JK....need to get it dipped in Sage from the 40th 80 color. , oh, it's over 362 bucks now.
