I don't know that I could coax Paul away from Portal, that's about the only forum he gets on, but for those of you that don't make it over there, check out the thread on his truck and a lot of his mods. He spends a ton of time traveling expedition style and has really thought out his build.

Maybe's Paul is too busy on all his expeditions to visit several forums. :D

Funny you post this, I was actually on Expedition Portal last night following this thread. I've seen other from MUD on there as well.

Can't see any of the pics unless I register...

Bummer....

Though I have seen Paul's rig in Beef Basin...nice ride.

We have.

Paul also post on YouTube with great demos of the products he sells. I've put lots of deposits down because of those videos. Search "equipt1". I've seen and inspected his truck at CM and it's top notch (and he runs the right tire :) ). When you email equipt you usually get a detailed response from Paul himself.

Oh and for those of you not on Expo, get on it!! For anything relating to expedition travel, trailers, cooking, gear it's the best resource out there.

I still like car camping.

There is no "expedition" in the lower 48.

The Congo or Australia or central Mongolia is a different story.

There are great "expeditions" to be had north and south of the border. And as far as Conus goes, ive been plenty of places in UT, NM, AZ, NV where you might see a hand full of vehicles each year if that. Just because we aren't retracing the Canol route doesn't mean it's not an expedition. Look around in your back yard!

What about Canada? Wouldn't a trip from Seattle to Prudhoe Bay be considering an expedition?

Those aren't the lower 48. That's the upper reaches of the North American continent.

So have I, many times, and one of the main reasons I moved to the Southwest.

I'm not saying those aren't cool adventures, but seriously, when you can drop into Moab after 5 days in the Maze District, have a delicious meal and beer, fuel up, supply up and head back out, that's not expedition...that's car camping-off roading.

That Congo trip chronicled in the NY Times is a expedition. What Al Podell and Harold Stevens did in the 1960's, that's an expedition.

Back to Paul.......I've never met him but have spoken with him on the phone several times regarding both his truck setup and some of the gear he sells. He is a incredibly nice guy who doesn't rush to get off the phone. Paul always gives me the impression that he will stay on the phone talking shop all day, which I appreciate. When I'm about to spend several $1,000 with a vendor, I don't want them rushing through my questions and trying to get off the phone.

I've yet to make a purchase through Paul, but will soon with a Frontrunner roof rack. I have traded several e-mails with Paul on the topic and he's always been very professional, thorough, and quick in his responses.
