I'm from the other side of the tech section, the Land Cruiser side. So I'll ask a question that has probably been ask a million times.
I've completed V8 swaps on LC but now I'm looking to put a different motor into a '95 Four Runner. Not a V8.
Would you please lead me to some information sources?

What do you have now? 3.0 V6? Or the 3.4?

If you have the 3.0, I'm sorry. That is the worst engine ever made by Toyota. If you are going to swap, may as well be a V8. Probly not one of those 427 race motors from Summit, but a V8 makes sense. Your 4 Runner doesn't weigh that much less than a LC either.

It's not my truck but it is the 150hp V6.
Seems that a V8 would require a shoehorn.
Looking at a Vortec V6 chevy?

I would probably put in a 4.3 liter vortec, or the all aluminium 'Short Star'.
I have seen a 350 in a gen1 4runner and it was a total hack job to get it in and make it work. I wouldnt do it.

I've done/completed a 3.8 Buick and a 4.3 TBI Chevy. Skip both.

I've not done a V8, but I can see no reason to even attempt one, sans maybe the iForce 4.7... and then, it'd just be for giggles...

If you have the 3.0 now, I wouldn't hesitate: Put a 3.4 in there and call it good. Plenty of aftermarket support, it's becoming a common swap, it's not much more $$ than a 4.3 (I have $4200 into my 4.3 - including a rebuild) and often can be less $$ because you don't need motor mounts or tranny adapters. If you are an HP junkie, you can throw $3K at the 3.4 and be sitting at 310HP at the crank.

No question - 3.4....

A swap using another Toyota Engine would be a PITA!

HUH? WHY?

3.0 to 3.4 is becoming a very popular swap because it's so easy. The engine is a bolt-in! Bolts up to the 3.0 motor mounts and the R150 tranny - NO ADAPTERS! The only hard part is the wiring (ORS has that handled) and the exhaust (Downey headers to custom exhaust), but this is no harder than a 4.3 or other swap.

I've done the 3.8, i've done the 4.3. I'd do the 3.4 in a heartbeat before considering the other two options....

Thanks you guys and keep it coming.
How's availability on the 3.4?

Should be good. check out www.car-part.com for listings at wrecking yards in your area. You'll see a vast array of prices, etc. But it gives you some indication of how available they are - we're talking about an engine that has been in production for ~10 years now...
