I am looking for help with an f engine swap to a 3fe. I have a four speed running gear system off an fj40-74. My questions relate to cutting out the computer, keeping the fuel injection, and mating the 3fe to the 74 tranny.

Have you read up on yur engine... 74 with a four speed.. Dang, How does the current engine run? You are sitting on a gold mine with that 74 engine. Keep it. Make her run good and you will be happy. If not I am sure somene here would be happy to take her off you hands..

Thanks for your input...I have been there all these years. I ran the snot out of my 72 and after several crank bearing repairs, I just began looking (sold the 72 an am down to the 69). I am running this summmer in a Naches Man Trip and I expect to be front end up, enough to impact the bearings real bad. I have avoided doing so with the fj40-69 and up to now have run it on dirt/gravel/nearly level. I do run a mixture of synth oil and carbon oil in the motor. I did so hoping that the last rebuild there would last longer than a few thousand miles. Got about 18k now.

Just completed a 3FE swap into a 43 series, mounted the ecu in the glove box; chopped everything out of the 3FE wiring harness that wasn't needed.....kept only the necessities to make her play music.........not hard if you have the wiring schematic.......
The motor mounting had to be modified some as the water pump is offset to the left a bit, I wanted to keep the fan centered on the radiator, plus gives more clearance in the master cylinder area as the intake plenum was very close............I'll post up some pics if it'll help.........also you can checkout Mark's thread --------- https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/204043-3fe-fj40-rtcustoms-build.html

yes, i did find that thred yesterday. i am getting the idea that the 3fe engine will not run w/o the computer/wiring that you all are talking about. i was sort of hoping to strip it down and make her an engine again...
