I know I am asking a lot of questions but trying to make a educated first 100 purchase. So for the question. How many miles are you getting out of your 100 before a engine rebuild? Thanks!

Well over a quarter million miles. They're just getting broken in at 100k!
I'm serious... My wife's '99 LC has 265k and mine has 218k and both are as strong as the day they drove off the lot.
We have not had to do anything to either of them. I've had a small valve cover leak and now I have a front seal leak, and one spark plug coil but that's all. Nothing on my wife's yet.

252k and purrs like a kitten. Spoke with a 27 year Toyota master tech, said he never saw a single "failure" of the UZJ engine in all the years it was out. Head gaskets, starter motors, etc. But nothing bottom end or engine killing. Someone posted a link that said some mechanical/oil geeks analyzed the motor and determined it to be a 500K design. YMMV.

Basically no one knows because with very rare exception, none have needed rebuilding. That's in spite of the fact they are 8-17 years old and many have hundreds of thousands of miles. This engine seems to be in a class by itself. Maybe in another 17 years someone will be able to answer your question.

Basically, keep the oil changed, timing belt, water pump & pulleys/idlers (at least every other 90k), radiator & cooling bits and you shouldn't have a problem. Inadequate cooling & head gaskets will probably be the most likely failure that could cause damage.

DNP-

I bought mine this summer with just under 250K. No one can believe how well it drives/rides/runs. I had to replace the alternator, but otherwise mechanically its been perfect (knock on wood). Told my self that I would be happy to get 300k out of it (since that is standard toyota design life). I also based it driving 5k a year, which is what I drove with my FJ60. Well, this is so nice, I think I am going to drive it a lot more and take more trips as well. So I'm hoping to get 350k out of it. Already keeping my eyes open for another 100. Also wondering about putting an 2005 tundra motor in it if this one goes belly up. It should bolt right up and produce about another 50hp. Some block and engine, just VVTi.
