Hey all,

I've done multiple searches here and can't find a thread that I came across a little while ago. The thread detailed how to look up the number on a engine block to determine when, where and what year the engine was built. And I believe you could even see past dealership service notes.

Can anyone post the link on where to look up that info? Thanks

The dealership notes will be tied to the Vin number. As well it will tell you date about truck manufacture but not engine if you were trying to confirm whether it was swapped or not

IDK.

Don't know the VIN unfortunately.... I'm researching the Toyota motor itself.

I thought I read somewhere diesel guys discussing production dates of their motors using the numbers off of their engine blocks.

Here is what I can see...

Correct sir, I have the number but what does the number mean?

It means what Toyota meant it to be: a serialization of manufacture

For 1990 (roughly) and later vehicles, the engine serial numbers have very little to do with the outward frame number or VIN.

It becomes mostly an internal number for supplier manufacture.

So, no dealer is going to be able to correspond your VIN/frame # to the engine number.

Make sense?

it works different in different countries
In US any car can have any engine, so the sole means for property is the pink slip
in other countries, lots of stolen vehicles, therefore, to have a frame without their correspondent engine, then it may have been stolen...
Over here, when a car is sold by the dealer, it comes with chasis number and engine number, VIN not of much use...maybe newer models
Also, a license plate goes with the car, you can not change it from car to car, even when you sell it, the car goes with the license plate

Okay that makes sense...I thought I had read somewhere that some diesel engines had a number stamped on it that said which factory and year it was made. Wish that I had bookmarked that thread. Thanks for the info

'Round these parts if seller has personalized plates seller may opt to keep plates and attach to other owned vehicle or turn in. Or sign over to transferee to assume those plates (and expense). The buyer is under no legal obligation to retain someone else's personalized plates. If offered and buyer declines they would be issued new plates.

any pictures on where the Engine number is situated?

Does the 1FZ have a date code stamp along with the engine serial number and part number? Maybe on the throttle body? Like 5 H 13 for August 13, 1995? I know 2Fs have this.
