engine knocking and intermittent extreme smoking from exhaust (1 Viewer)

hi good day i am new to this site, hoping that someone can help me with a serious issue i am having. really weird, this problem happened 4 times, while driving the engine started to knock losing power and a lot of blackish smoke from exhaust. eventually engine cut off and couldn't restart, needed to be jumped started. this occurred 3 times, diesel was seen leaking out of the intercooler connector hose to throttle body. this occurred 3 times, i subsequently adjusted the fuel pump, rotating the mark line on the pump slightly below the recommended mark. the engine worked for a about 6 months without this problem except i found it was knocking a bit to much. the problem explained above occurred again last week. don't know why, anyone ever experienced this before or can give some incite. thanks in advance

Year, model, engine model, transmission? There were two diesels offered in the 90 series, and several transmissions, over 7 plus model years.
