So this afternoon while changing out my "T" fitings on my heater lines it occurred to me, "why put this dang engine cover back on"??

It seems like every time I remove the cover to do any kind of work/maintenance it's really not protecting anything. Seems like there's just as much dirt/grime underneath the cover as on top..

How many have removed the cover? Any issues you've run into? Have I had to much beer tonight??

Not to mention, it's that much easier to throw some pre made quasidillas on the intake for a quick hot meal!!

What do you guys think?

No harm leaving it off. Many run naked, and I've done it for a year at a stretch.
If there are advantages of the cover they are probably limited to keeping things a bit cleaner, less risk of loosing a bolt down below the inlet manifold, and slightly reduced engine noise.

I noticed slightly less engine noise with the cover on now that i have DT headers. You would only be able to tell the difference if you drive the truck and know what noises are normal or not.

I wonder if the engine runs cooler (especially around the intake manifold and the valley where the starter is buried) with the cover removed... I might have to stuff a digital thermometer in there to find out.

I use it to dry towels and clothes while camping. Comes in handy.

Chunk it. Now you can spot a leak easier

Mines been in the back corner of the garage since I brought the truck home 6 years ago.

took it off. Easier to keep an eye on the tunnel underneath there, to clean debris and make sure there is no rodent trying to make a nest...

I need one. Sent it my way.

Wish I could figure out how the old one got damaged

Didn't mean to hijack. The wife pulled out of a drive way in front of a small Infinity that was doign about 40
Wife and baby were fine. It was back in Dec 2011.

It did so well I went out and bought a new one and have been fixing this one up. It is back on the road but still needs a few minor things like the engine cover, hook up the fog lights and attach the front trim.
I just got the silver star so I could post pictures again so I figured why now.

I suppose I will take it off since it looks better then a cracked cover.
