Engine bay way too hot when AC is running

Have yet to get an infrared thermometer, but there is a huge difference in engine bay temps between running the a/c and not. Even the hood and hood prop are "burn your hand hot" after running the air conditioning. Additionally, the passenger side of the hood is the hottest area. I'm also getting a spike in engine water temperatures about 10 or more degrees. After idling for 5 mins without a/c, steady 180 degrees. Idling for approximately 5 mins with a/c running, about 194 degrees. I have a 180 degree thermostat and a mechanical water temperature gauge.

Seems to me something is not right.

Mine was not even close to what you are saying here.

I did the following when I had it off the road.
Replaced the every bit of the AC system with the exception of the hoses. I still run R12.
Replaced the water pump and fan clutch with Aisin parts, not upgrades and whatever was stock for a '86.
Replaced all hoses (except the heater hoses as they were newer)
Replaced the thermostat with a factory Toyota one, plus the gaskets.
Rad was replaced with a CSF rad about 100 miles before I bought it.

No over heating issues with AC blasting, engine bay is as hot as my F150 and I can open the hood just fine.

during my first test i ran my engine at about 1300 RPM for about 45 minutes in my garage at about 100* outside and 108* in the garage for heat.
Did this while I burped the system. Never went above 190* for engine temp.

After shut down and heat soaked it hit 200* but that is expected.
