Engel fridge MT45F-S... anyone?

I posted THIS THREAD back in Oct 2007 in the expedition section with no response, (wrong location I guess).

Wondering why I can't find the MT45F-S model engel anywhere? If you check engels website, (or my above link to my old post), the old MT45[F] hasn't been available from them since at least October when I posted, but still no retailers that I can find offer this new 'S' model!? 'S' model should be easy to distinguish; it has a silver lid rather than the dark grey, but moreover it has a digital temp readout and an interior LED.

Anyone know who's carrying these?

Well shoot. One call to cruiser outfitters and Kurt said that's an ausy product only. I was looking at the Engel Australia website.

Kurt did say, (no affiliation, just good folks), that literally this month Engel has come out with a lighter plastic model for near the same price as the current. So no rattles, lighter weight etc...

While they may have it on their site, I can assure you its not available yet They won't be out until May/June in the US... I personally don't have them on my site yet, waiting to make sure things pan out with delivery, quality, etc.

I don't know if you have seen the new plastic models, but what is your gut feeling about quality versus the old standard metal models.

I would really like to buy a fridge for our trip to Alaska, but would like the new series II MT45F-S with the built in LED and temp gauge. I am worried about delivery before July.

Maybe I should give you a call...

Honestly can't say until May/June... I hope for the best. Engel has always been pretty tight on their quality, its my beleif that this new plastic unit will maintain that. The reasoning isn't the same as most of the "metal to plastic" conversions we see in this world ie looking for cheaper, lighter materials... It was because of the ocean. A sizeable chunk of Engels market is maritime users, and the saltwater seemed to wreak havoc on anything metal, fridges included. Wether or not this was the major reason I don't know, but this is what I've been told
