Quick question for whoevers reading, I've looked everywhere for an owners manual for this thing and was wondering about the proper procedure for engaging/disengaging 4wd and the electric hub lock... because sometimes when i stop to disengage it then start to slowly drive away ill get a noticiable "thunk" sound that you can noticeably feel, now to me this doesn't feel normal and Im paranoid that Im slowly wrecking it. Any help would be great.

im new on this sire and Ill be posting a pic of our plain jane cruiser on the newcomers thread

This is how I do it...(Mines an automatic)
With engine running (uses vacuum activated solenoids)
Push in the hubs button...
Make sure I am in N and stopped or very slowly moving very slowly...
If I want 4H, push in the 4H button...(This locks the front drive-shaft to transfercase)

If you then want 4L, auto in N and move lever to L.

Reverse order to go back to 2wd.

Now if you want to go to 4L straight away, engage hubs and move lever to L...
If you decide to go back to H it will be in 2wd as the 4H button was not selected.

Warning..... make sure the the 4H button is not left on with hubs off (2wd)... it will still be engaged and will be spinning away doing nothing....Not sure if this will have any detrimental effects but why have it spinning wearing away for no reason.

There is also some speed restrictions for putting in the hubs , going too fast and the dash light will just flash...

I am sure there are posts on here with more information... search is your friend.

just to add:
pushing 4H button without the hub lock button in doesn't do anything. system is setup so that you must have the hub lock button in to engage 4H. even with my hubs locked permanently (by pulling the cover off, engaging the gears and then removing the small gear off the servo motor) I have to push the hub lock button in and have a steady green before I get 4WD by pushing the 4H button.

Best to engage hubs at standstill although I believe the manual says 5mph or less.

Mark

Hi Mark
Even with no hubs on if you select the H4 button, sure the dash light wont activate but it still engages it and you will find it will spin away.
You wont get the lights to go unless the hubs are on...
Give it a go...
I found out the hard way, kids had been fiddling and I got this drive line vibe at 100ks on motorway....Checked and found H4 on..
Had a play at home and discovered how it was working....

I'll take your word for it Calvin, with my hubs permanently locked now I can't test it with the car on the ground... I assumed (yes I know that assuming makes an 'ASS-out-of-U-and-ME  ) that cos the lights weren't on that it wasn't engaged at the transfer box.

Thanks for the clarification!

Mark

the clunk is coming from gear bind, normal if you are disengaging on or after driving on hard ground to if you have the wheels turned sideways when attempting to disengage.

you can shift from 2wd to 4wd at ANY speed but MAKE SURE HUBS ARE LOCKED AT STAND STILL.

do NOT engage hubs while moving.

4H will engage the front driveshaft and should be engaged AFTER hubs are locked.
