Where do we look to drop off donated goods? In my research, everyone is looking for financial donations, not actual food items.

Matt, where do you look to find these places?

I can coordinate with other stores and see if they can provide a place for drop off in your area - I've dedicated space at my store. Let me know if this is what you want to do.

Focusing on a certain need might be a good plan.

Could we hit up Ocean city, then take the ferry from Lewes Deleware to Lower Township, NJ and hit up Atlantic City in the same trip or is that too much? Something like this:
http://goo.gl/maps/ijTnZ

Seems like either place could use our help. Where do we think would be the best place to focus on? I'm thinking that it'll be easier for us as a club to focus on the city that's closer to us, so Ocean City, MD.

I think it'd be tough to hit one place and then the other. It'd be hard to "hold back" stuff that we have with us at one place to give it to the 2nd location.

I totally get the idea of going to the closer venue, but my vote is for the AC Rescue Mission. I'll obviously go wherever most folks choose, but I just feel like we should go where the need is the greatest. That being said, I guess I don't know for sure how bad things are in Ocean City, MD. I just know that Atlantic City, and surrounding areas got pounded.

Good news.....my boss has agreed to pay the full bill for my trailer rental and gas for the trip! Boo yah! Now I can afford to buy a bit more stuff to donate.

Other than the two places I mentioned and the link with a few more from a couple days back, I start by googling "disaster relief Atlantic City." Add you own city if you wish. If no hits, "disaster relief shelter..." Or "disaster relief items..."

Possible suggestion - if someone is in contact with cruiserheads in NJ - what is their communities direct need? They could probably suggest the most need and location..

I'm leaning toward AC, NJ. They need the help more. My boss is looking at buying a 28ft trailer and expects me to fill it. Anybody have a car they want to donate? Furniture? Mattresses?

Anybody else up for going?

So far, I have it as:

Me
Mike (with Adam and Johnny riding along)
Charity & Hubby
Matt?
Chris?

First step is that we need to pick where we're going. I vote AC. Johnny said OC. Mike is leaning towards AC. I think Charity mentioned they were focusing on NJ. Should we go ahead and say AC is it, or does anybody have any more votes for OC? I'd love to help out OC too, but in the interest of time, I think we need to focus our attention on one spot so that we can let potential donors know where their donations are going and so that we can plan our trip.

AC sounds good to me!

Im working on setting up a collection at work. The GCLCNY folks are now organizing do do seething similar. They say that NJ is the worst off right now.

Ill continue to search for disaster relief dropoff locations and report back.

:crybaby:You guys suck at reading previous posts..

I cannot go

My huz is willing to go, I asked if he could ride with someone else as I think its a bad idea to go up there and back without another driver or rider on a back to back trip..

He's willing to meet up in Raleigh on your way out if thatll work for anyone (we're near Wilmington) Plus it couldn't possibly hurt to have a retired corpsman along..:D That being said, wherever yall decide to go, he is down - just has to be back home Sunday night for work Monday morning.

I ALSO said I could probably get donation drop off points established at one my companys retail stores - just need to know which store would be best for a majority of the drivers and trailers....:flipoff2:

Love you guys..let me know...if anyone reads this...:crybaby:

i read it! corpseman up! :) meatball likes letters and pictures

I read your posts, but you weren't clear if the drop off points were here in NC for collecting goods or up in NJ for donating goods. Which company is your company?

If I was driving, I'd be more than happy to have him along with me.

It's best buy..I have a good amonut of room to spare at the jacksonville store for donations and if there's location close to you that we could store donations at, they'd be happy to get involved too. All you to tell me what store and ill get you a POC within 24 hours..bby loves this kind of work..have we decided what to gear donations towards?

Can you set one up for Aberdeen, NC. I can collect periodically between now and the 16th. Tell them no more after the 16th.

The list I posted in the first post is a pretty comprehensive list of what's needed.

If you could set one up for the Best Buy in Cary Towne Center and the one on Crossroads Boulevard, that would be excellent. Thank you!

Sorry Charity, I read your posts, but thought you meant you couldn't go if we were going this weekend, the 10th. Sorry you can't make it, but hopefully someone can ride with your hubby so that we don't lose one of the 3 rigs we currently have that are going. My wife and a co-worker are riding with me.

Like Johnny, I think there was some confusion about "drop-off points". I believe Johnny is talking about drop-off points up in the AC area, while you were talking about drop-off points for donations here in this area. I'm collecting stuff here at work to fill my trailer. If there's room left, I could head to the Best Buy in Cary Towne Center or on Crossroads to pick up what Johnny can't fit, if need be. I also live really close to the Best Buy that's next to Southpoint Mall here in Durham.

As for drop-off points up in AC, Johnny....I think that Matt mentioned that the AC Rescue Mission has a drop-off point in Egg Harbor, which is about 20 miles from downtown AC. If you'd like, I can try to get in touch with them and find out about exact location. That is, unless you've had any luck finding other spots.

So are you guys thinking we should leave on Saturday at crack o' dawn, or should we leave Friday after work and get part of the way up? I'm fine either way, but depending on pace, if we leave at like 6am, we'd be rolling into the AC area around 2:00 - 3:00, which is cutting it close for it getting dark now that the time has fallen back, especially if we are delayed at all. We can discuss logistics more at the meeting tomorrow evening.

This is awesome guys! I'm really glad we're doing this!
