Anyone in the Tempe/Chandler area have a sniffer? I need to adjust the carb to lower CO readings. registered a 1.67 with a max allowable limit of 1.50. All else was fine.
Already have new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil change. My long time mechanic has left AZ.

Howdy! Yup, I got one. It's a 30 year old Heathkit, and kinda slow on the readings, but it does work. ;) I have used it to fine tune my idle mix to get legal several times. Most years, a tune up and oil change has been enough to get all my cars (8) thru smog.:grinpimp: John

Inkpot,
Would like to stop by some time in the near future. I am in S. Tempe.
Give me a call 480-695-5818 maybe Sat??

Howdy! WEll,Saturday I am booked to go to the woods. Friday I will be working on my rig from about noon til whenever, midnight? I work nights, and I am off Friday, and Saturday. I go in about 6pm, if you have time off on a weekday afternoon. John

:crybaby: Hey, dude, that is one really sweet rig you've got there.;p Keep it bone stock and tidy forever:rolleyes: . It's almost like a shrine.

Sorry I couldn't come up with more on the smog problems:idea: ,but I hope that one carb temp sensor conector is the ticket:grinpimp: . It's definitely not the EGR, cause that takes care of the NoX, and that's not a problem for you. The PVC system is mostly to take car of HC(raw fuel and oil vapors), again, no problem. The AIR Injector system deals with both HC and CO Make sure that the pump belt is tight, and the air supply is clean and adaquate. You may need to clean out that K&N filter before you retest:banana: . It could be just enough to make the difference. Maybe you need to take a look at the timing:idea: . Just a few degrees of advance will make a bid difference. I think think that about 4 degrees drop the idle a tad bit.
You'd almost think I had been hitting the books:ban: after you left:shotts: .
Keep us posted on the results. Don't forget I often have an empty right seat if you want to ride along on a trail you don't want to take a chance on banging up that BEAUTY :flamingo: of a 40. JOhn:cheers:

Hijack! Oh man that's rich! Roll the mouse curser over the horse beating smiley and check the name, not everyone gets a smiley named after them!:bounce:

Went down to the Gilbert emissions station this AM after performing some of the techniques we spoke of last night. Passed with a .75 on CO
DSCN0045.webp

Congratulation on passing! You're good for another year ;p

Hopefully the law that passed in AZ will take affect for Vintage vehicles and I will no longer have to subject the Cruiser to drivers that cannot operate it properly!!

Not to kill your buzz, but that new law will only apply to collector vehicles with collector car insurance. Good luck getting that insurance for a FJ40.

If it's real stock and not a driver you may have a chance. I did it once when I added my 40to an existing collector policy for my Triumph.

My rig's a lot less stock looking now.:frown:

Already have the collector car insurance on the FJ via State Farm.

Get outta town!
I've got State Farm and they said no way on the FJ
Tell me more.......

I have State Farm vintage insurance on the 1976 FJ, 1975 Plymouth Duster, and just was informed by the agent that my 1983 Ramcharger meets requirements also.
My DD is the 2004 Dakota, so the others are lo-mi vehicles.

Howdy! It depends on the agent. It is up to him in a lot of cases. I have Farmers Ins on my house and 8 cars, and I get a lot of help from him. John

How did the Ajax run go John??
Howdy! actaully, yesterday we went up to the old Smithsonian Solar Observatory on top of Harquahala Mountain, about 40 miles north of Tonopah. Lots of fun. Several ruins and mines along the way. Road has lots of hairpins and steep, rocky hills, but not extemely challenging. View from the top is great. 5700ft, no clouds or wind. May have to make a prospecting run up that way soon, since gold is now at $500+ per ounce. John

I think the mine at the top of that mountain is Turquoise.
Is the Solar observatory visitor info plaque still there?

Howdy! Yup, there must be nearly a dozen of the info plaques. Don't know how old it is, but there is a large, solar powered antenea complex up there for CAP. We didn't have enough time to really check out any of the mines other than the one that's 2.5 miles in from the trailhead. John

So who's your agent?
