Guys can anyone tell me if the emblems on the tailgate can be removed? I'm guessing all but the center Toyota "T" emblem. Can anyone confirm?

Sorry if this had been asked 200 times before. The tapatalk search ability is pretty crap.

Thanks!

I've read that heat guns with fishing line will do the trick. Your middle "T" should have a couple holes behind it, but the rest are just stuck on.

Heat gun, fishing line, goo gone once you get rid of the big chunks of adhesive, then wash it and get a clay bar kit from Autozone. Worked like a charm. Don't forget your elbow grease.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! That's the same way my 4R was setup. How about the front emblem? Is that easy to remove?

Going to remove most of the rear ones, and paint the rear "T" and the front "T". Right now they are gold, which I am not a huge fan of.

Thanks!

What year is your truck? They are attached differently depending on year, at least with the LX.

1999.

All the rear emblems came off w dental floss.

No heat gun needed, just use the floss to saw through the adhesive and remove the leftover goo w some rubbing compound. In addition to adhesive, the big T on the rear has two posts that fit into holes in the body, but no screws.

The big T on the front grill is held on by three little screws from the inside.
You need a small phillipshead w a short handle to reach the inside of the front emblem in front of the radiator.

Or simply a phillips head to remove the grill and then remove the emblem. It's less of a hassle to do that than fiddle with the screws trying to wedge a screwdriver between the grill and radiator.

Guys - thanks again for the help. And thanks for not yelling at me to use the search engine. Now that I'm using the computer, a targeted title search in the 100 only sub-section yields a few easy results. Unfortunately the tapatalk search isn't near as good!

Incidentally, I'll probably just remove the engine to get at the screws for the front emblem. That should give me plenty of elbow room! ;)

Save time by removing the radiator and fenders, and tilt the front end forward. ;)

OMG SEARCH :grinpimp:

Here's where I got rid of the old nasty gold emblems and updated them with the new version. Heat gun (or a hair dryer) to get the adhesive goey and fishing line will get it off.

Heat and fishing line worked great on mine, I pulled the emblems with just the heat of the sun while on vacation in July. Cleanup with more heat, rags and goo-gone to remove the adhesive, then a mother's cleaning wax to polish the ghosting.

I broke the T since I wasn't able to lift it from the adhesive between the pins.

Front just came off with three screws.
